Question What is Effective Damage Level?

Quote:
As well as increasing the critical rate, the swordsmanship attribute will add hidden damage by changing the Effective Damage Level (EffDL) if certain conditions are meet. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Swordsmanship
What is Effective Damage Level? Does the higher your swordsmanship attribute, the higher the base damage of the weapon itself [not including skills]?

TsunamiZ, if you have 12 swordsmanship, you do more damage than 8 swordsmanship.

and just to be clear, that's your attribute level, not your sword requirements.

as long as you meet the requirement for the sword, a req 8 will do the same damage as a req 13.
ex, you have 13 swordsmanship attribute,
having a req 8 sword will do the same damage as a req 13.

but it seems exceeding the req 8 attribute for my sword to 12 makes me do more base damage. is this the 'hidden damage'? in which case, i do more base damage if im sword attribue is higher?

If you don't meet the requirement for your weapon, it's treated like a starter version of that weapon. In your case, the sword would be treated like a 2-3 dmg sword if you had 7 swordmanship or lower.
If you meet the requirement, it's treated at it's actual level (which in your case I presume is 15-22)
Your swordmanship level increases the percentage of dmg you actually do. 8 is pretty low, and I recall it's about 60% at 8 swordmanship. At 12 you do 100% of the dmg, and at 16 you do 115%. I don't know if you can call that 'hidden', but it is extra dmg yes.
A req. 11 sword at 12 swordmanship will do the exact same dmg as a req.7 sword at 12 swordmanship. (provided mods etc. are the same)
Your level also influences your active damage level, but since in PvP everyone is lvl 20 this doesn't affect PvP. (this is why lvl 28 elementalists are such huge dmg dealers, and this is why Ghostly Hero ownssssszzz people with Power Shot)
I hope I answered your question. If anything was unclear or left unanswered, feel free to PM me.
