I like furious, myself. Barbed is a close second. Furious is good for the increased chance of more adrenaline, and I like to be sadistic at times, so barbed, with its longer bleeding, satisfies my cruel urges.

It depends on a two things
  • your build?
  • PvP or PvE?
I'm not a PvE expert, so I'll stick to the PvP advice
There is not one best mod. You have 4 weapon sets, use them.
One should be Zealous for energy hungry times, one should be a dmg improving mod (either vamp or sundering. There's a 3 page thread in Glad's Arena about which one is better) to pump out more dmg (duh), and one should have an elemental mod for when you're attacking warriors. (they have 100-116 armor against physical dmg, but only 80-96 against elemental dmg. That's a lot of dmg you're adding)

I hope this was of some help

Sundering is if you are stuck in the sundering= good phase. Personally I like furious also because I use mostly adrenaline skills.

Anything but Sundering or Furious. Sundering sucks at every level, furious is only marginally better. One extra adrenaline strike every ten hits? Pfffffft. Vamp is straight up pure life steal, zealous is always good. Elemtantal damage is anice bonus against warriors not running Sentinel armor (no PvE mobs have armor bonuses).

First of all, thanks for the laugh.

It depends on your build and what you are doing, but for sword the best mods I believe are

Zealous
Vampiric

Furious is trash, 10% is not worth the mod,
Sundering the same, not only because it's 20% but also because on a 15-22dmg weapon is really not worth it and you better off with vampiric doing that -3 every 1.33 seconds.
About condition mods, well I feel that most conditions are removed before their full duration anyway, the only I'd see fit to bring would be silencing or cruel, there isn't silencing for swords thou.
Elemental mods (ebon, icy, fiery, shocking) are good against warriors.

I agree with Thomas, you'll want to have multiple weapn sets for different situations. Personally, I carry around 3 swords - a vamp sword for when I'm killing stuff, furious for when I'm chasing something and not actually swinging, and Icy as an elemental switch vs. Warriors (also handy for trigger Shivers in PvE teams). Also... I occaisonally break out the Furious when I'm running Dragon slash because if it procs... Well... it's fun.

People, sundering doesn't suck. It used to suck bad back when it was 10/10, but now it's 20/20, which nets to 4% AP in the long run. (as opposed to the 1% it was). It's about as good as vamp now, but you don't have the -1. Don't say the -1 is compensated for by the life steal. It's not. People block, people kite, people knock you down, snare you, etc.
The -1 would be compensated by the life steal if you continuously hit your target every 1.5 seconds. In PvP this is far from realistic. For PvE, stick with Vamp though.
I only ever run Furious for fun in a Dragon Slash build, because it can recharge itself insantly. In that build there are still better choices though, and with any other build Furious is just plain crap.

There's a whole thread on Vampiric versus Sundering here http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ght=Vampiri c , and the overwhelming majority of the community has mathematically proven that vampiric is superior to sundering in almost every circumstance, even at 20/20.

People that like Sundering simply don't want the minor psychological impact of having -1 health degeneration (even though the actual impact to the character is quite minimal)

To help with that pyschological impact, remember that it would take the average character almost 5 minutes to die from -1 health degeneration.

No, I'm sorry, but people really haven't agreed to that.
Vamp: +3 every hit, -1 degen. If you dish out 2400 dmg in one minute under constant frenzy, vamp will add 69 x 3 = 207 dmg to that.
Sundering: 4% AP unconditional in the long run. 2400 dmg without the AP is 2400 dmg, with 4% AP it would be 2575.
This is assuming you hit constantly under frenzy, without blocking/kiting/blinding etc. If those things do occur, both ofcourse drop by the same factor so the equation stays the same.
Sundering comes out slightly worse (32 dmg per minute), but has the advantage of coming in larger packages. Large packages are good in guild wars.
So, you can choose +0.53 DPS over the advantage of being spikier if you want to, and in PvE please do. I'm not saying one is better, I'm just saying people haven't 'agreed that vampiric is superior to sundering in almost every circumstance, even at 20/20'

I agree, I like vampiric the most (you need another sword to put on when you're not fighting though)
