Default 1 Class to take through all 3 Camp. - Suggestions?

I'm looking to make one class I can ultimately play through all 3 Campaigns that will fit the following criteria (and I do own all 3 already with the PvP unlcoks, just never really got down to playing a PvE toon full out):

1.) Is usually needed/invited into groups.
2.) Is decent at farming.
3.) Can duo with another player using Heroes through most of the content.
4.) Is effective/needed for successful PvE and PvP.

I assume this will ultimately end up being a Core class of some kind. I've played Warriors, Elementalists, Monks, and Dervishes up to max level before - just deleted them over the years for various reasons. I'm open to any suggestions. I am not a fan of Necros, however.

Given the current status of the game/needed classes and builds, what would you all recommend for a character to take through all 3 Campaigns?

Thanks again!

Monk.

1.) Never enter a mish w/out one.
2.) 55 anyone?
3.) Offensive Heroes, don't need to use a monk one if you are good enough.
4.) You won't survive witout one.

How can you have played the game as much as you claim and not know the answer to your own question? *boggle*

Puebert nailed it. 'nuff said.

First of all, he sounds like a PvPer because he has the unlock packs and the PvE versions, but hasn't really seen much of the PvE game.

Second of all:

I agree with Puebert. Monks really are the most versatile class imo. And the most fun.

Elementalist

1. People always look for nukers
2. Lots of ele farm builds
3. 2 ele heroes plus yourself and a mm hero = TONS of damage. Hench monks are good enough, dont need hero monks.
4. Nukers always wanted in pve, and in pvp nukers are currently somewhat popular plus warding and water snares are great.

Monks are practically the cornerstone of this entire game. It fits the criteria you've posted.

Elementalist

1. Lots of AoE which is great for PVE noob mobs.
2. E/A Green Farmer ftw.
3. Ele+Monk in DoA can clear an entire area. Also Pajamas makes a good point.
4. Eles are quite broken in skill area, so all attributes are way buffed.

agree with monk...

One thing, tho...you will spend most of your time staring at the party window and less on the monsters.

Monk for everything you've mentioned.

However, I've finished all three campaigns with my warrior, and my monk, dervish, and ranger aren't far behind. Most of the way, I hero/henchied it, or duo'd with a friend. Except for the "gets invited to groups" criteria, ANY class can solo/duo through the content, and there are farm builds for everything.

Ritualist.

1.) Healing is always needed, And you have some decent damage too.
2.) yes. VwK, and you can 55 with any caster,
3.) Yep. A rit and warrior have been noted to duo the second to last mission in Nightfall
4.) Never leave home without one of these or a monk.

Sounds like a hard choice... now what profession is accepted into every team... is never in excess... has plenty of farming builds...

Paragon of course!

Come on this was a no brainer of a thread.

My ranger succesfully completed all 3 chapters...

1) i hardly have problems being invited in groups (maybe "the deep");
2) i am a decent farmer (especially in uw);
3) i think every class can "duo with another player using Heroes through most of the content" (it is the mix that matters)
4) see 1 (but i dont know about pvp)

Ranger

1)I don't pug in PvE as I find it a waste of time and use heroes, but don't have any problems geting in a group if I want, people don't dislike rangers.
2)UW solo trapping, b/p, fow forest, rangers can farm
3)Duo or solo with heroes easy
4)rangers are very useful in pvp.

Thank you for all of your suggestions, I appreciate it. I know Monk is the easy answer, but I figured I'd put it out there to see if anyone had any other opinions. I've beaten each Campaign once (Proph with Monk, Factions with War, and Night with Derv) but other than the Primary Story I haven't explored much of the side content. Also enjoy the PvP a lot as someone alluded to.

A minor question - in decent guilds (not hardcore ones, but not pushover ones) is it usually acceptable to have just one "Main" Roleplay toon, and then be able to switch to any class/skillset with the PvP toon options? Seems with the current armor customization options for PvP toons it would be feasible.

People underestimate damage control in PvE. If you are able to kill fast, then monks won't matter. Ele is great, warrior is great, ranger is great. These high damage classes are fine for PvE. Henchies/Most players/Heros, suck at knowing where to put the damage and how. You give them a bar, they won't be able to use it efficiently. YOU can. Do it right, you won't need to waste time monking. And eles, rangers, warriors, all have tons of farming builds, always find a place in PvP.

monk...but you may not like playing defensivley or healing others.

elementalists are always need everywhere

warriors are pretty much need everywhere, but may take time to find a group in some places

necros are wanted everywhere...SS, BiP, SV, MM..etc

rangers...not exactly wanted everywhere, but they are fun to play

pretty much any of the core classes. mesmers have a hard time finding groups though because people are dumb =D

I have taken a W, R, Mo, and E thru Prophesies. Have decided to take the R/Mo (B/P, always with cap sig) thru all 3 chapters, with W, E, Mo heros. This allows me to be on the offensive, and have the needed healer / protector. Getting into PuGs has not been a problem.

Looks like most reccommend taking a monk. If you enjoy the monk enough to heal / protect thru 58 missions and ? quests, more power to you. For me, that sounds like too much work. The 25 missions in Prophesies was challenging enough. Time to just enjoy the scenery and manage my own health.

Good luck on your choice and enjoy the journey.
