Default New Classes in GW2?

I've read that GW2 and further expansions/campaigns will not include more professions. If so, was the concept class subforum made in vain? I know that the general ideas for the paragon and dervish came from there, but why is Anet deciding not to add more classes? And what then is the use of the concept class subforum?

on another side note:

Dating back to prophecies, this armor was shown in sites as wallpapers and in galleries of GW, a kind of advertising icon that was not very popular or notable. Why was this armor never introduced? I thought it was a warrior's armor when I first say it (nearly two years ago).

off topic, it would look nice on a dual wielding class (for swords and etc), but this idea is more for the concept class subforum =]

To be honest, the Concept Class forum is a...quarentine for bad ideas.

James Phinney said that some classes would be merged, though, and that some of the core wouldn't be returning in the same form.

Sometimes, too much classes can be a bad thing.

i suppose we'll wait for GW2 before we make any real criticisms.....But I still don't like the idea of no more new classes. the classes are a bit limiting, and skill balances and new skill adds can only keep the creativity and joy of discovery up for long eh?

it would make sense that most of the present classes will undergo transformation and modifications for GW2; changing gameplay and etc as well as "wtf 100 years after and still same skills?" Then again, it could be argued the same way for new professions =]

I just wish we had all the current classes still I like them...
It'll also be strange having your GW2 character "inherit" traits from your GW1 character, but not being the same class as them. But anyway, I trust ANet and hope the classes are fun

Basically GW designers lost faith in their design of the current classes, and rather than fix these designes, they decided to scrap Guild Wars.

Guild Wars 2 is using a tweaked version of the Guild wars one engine so the reason for the new game isnt graphics, and whatever gameplay improvments are part of guild wars 2 probably could be given as a part of guild wars one. Guild wars 2 will have a lot of Guild wars 1 legacy code, and it will be a challenge to have an older engine look as good as some of the newer 2009 games on the market.

The reason to scrap GW1, then is because they think the current characters are bloated and unessary and the designers have lost faith in the game we love (this is all in the PC gamer article).

So we cant keep our old characters... because a hatred of the old characters is why there is going to be a Guild wars 2 in the first place.

A dual-weilding ranger with swords/dagger/axes with pet controls and buffs ??
Sounds good to me ! Though it is hard to pass up on being the Norn shapeshifter

I can't emphasize enough to remember that they want the main game to be soloable with just one companion. Aside from implying enemy scaling, it also implies that GW2 classes will much be less specialized and far more self-sufficient.

I just hope it doesn't turn out like NF where everyone plays the game with a party of heroes... kind of defeats the purpose of GW being an MMO.

Hmmm, I wonder, does he mean all the classes that we have now or merging core classes? I'm also curious as to what he meant about the core classes not returning in the same form.
