An Elementalist's place in a FoW group? - Guild Wars Forums

Today I went to the Temple of the Ages in hopes of solo farming ectoplasm for my first time, and after I returned to the temple, I found a group looking for more for going into the FoW. I joined that group, and I was asked to ping my build, which I did, and right after that, I got kicked out of the group. I run a basic SF build:

Searing Flames
Glowing Gaze
Liquid Flames
Meteor Shower
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Glyph of Sacrifice
Fire Attunement
Resurrection Signet

I thought SF eles were popular in UW/Fow but I guess my build's just screwed up

Can someone tell me, how are Elementalists useful in the FoW?

You CAN get ecto from FoW. There's a small chance that the Banshees will drop it.

Last I checked eles were still popular for FoW. Unless you were trying to join a group looking for a specific build. Then again, ti could just be that they decided to take someone else, a guildie or something. Rude, but it does happen.

Or it could be that the leader is one of those people that just want to stick with the old.
Sf eles work in Fow , so does the normal echo/arcane echo/renewal MS ele.I think you just had bad luck on the group.Currently i rather take a SF ele then a echo MS ele , simply because the SF ele doesnt suffer from the downtime that echo MS ele does.

It sounds like you just ran into a rude group. It happens.

The same thing happened to me the other day. I joined a fow grp and pinged my build which included Searing Flames among other fire spells. No Meteor Shower. I don't particularly like MS. Cast time is soooo long.

Anyways, they asked me to ping my build and said it looked good. A couple more folks joined and the group took a long time examining their builds and making changes. We finally started and while we were attacking the 3rd or 4th mob in the Shadow Army someone said:
"OMG! You're using SF!"
"Idiot! What a moron!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Why'd you bring SF??"

"Huh?? What? You told me to ping my build. I did. It included SF and you said it looked fine! Don't complain now!"

They never would tell me why they hated SF. The group broke up soon after defeating the Shadow Army. There were 2 or 3 troublemakers that refused to do anything except gripe.

So, to the OP. I guess the group you encountered hated SF as well and kicked you for that reason. They could have at least suggested a different build. Sounds like a bunch of 9 year olds and you're probably better off not going with them.

Like most of you, I don't like MS and it's recharge time. The only time I take it is when I have Renewal and even then I hardly use it. Funny thing is the groups who are so adamant about having Echo/Archane Echo MS never notice that I'm barely using it, but they comment on what a good group we are and how fast we're killing.

Im not an expert on ele's and their builds but another bad thing about meteor shower is that it causes exaustion. 25 energy + 25 points of exhaustion then double that because of echoing it. I dont see how renewal would make that go away any faster but I would rather take your build any day over the echo meteor show ele.

hehe i love these posts where other eles complain about ms. i just took it out of my build because .... yes it takes so damn long to cast. ive never used echo either. im happy to say that since the advent of so many new skills i dont get that many DEMANDS on how i should run my ele but in older areas like FOW i can understand how that mindset can be stuck still. people change and builds change and FOW builds need to change because the same old thing gets Boooooring. you dont tell me how to run my ele and i wont tell u how to run your warrior. if u want an ele with ms then make one. anyone who tells me how to set my build gets set on fire heheh

No, it doesn't cost you 25 points of exhaustion, just 10. And with decent energy management you can easily manage with an echoed MS.

You may want to drop the resurrection signet for a hard res, like rebirth or resurrection chant

MMmmm, ya the OP's SF build is the most basic SF build out there. It is very effective anywhere. They booted you cause they don't know better, so you can pride yourself in the fact that *you* know better... hehe!
