Would using bane signet during brutal mauling work?

It also knocks down attacking foes.

Go to Ascalon City and ask someone who knows to help you. Follow his/her instructions carefully, because you have to use charm animal at the right moment. Some players help you for free, others help you for a bit of gold.

Bears really aren't that good, and not worth the effort.

And you will need a stalker for a couple of quests anyway. You could always get the bear later, in a normal fashion on your own (If you so desire).

I just helped a guildmate charm a bear earlier. It took a good number of tries, but eventually we got it.

To capture a bear you need a partner with a lower level character. They have to tank the bear while the charmer sets them self up with the bear just outside their aggro bubble. They wait until the bear uses Brutal Mauling, and run away from the charmer when it does. Meanwhile, the charmer starts casting Charm animal when the bear starts using Brutal Mauling.

Unfortunately, it turns out that there are actually 3 different types of bears in Pre-Searing.

Type One one uses Breaking Charm as soon as they finish Brutal Mauling. They cannot be charmed.

Type Two can use Breaking Charm at a distance greater then that of a normal spell. They cannot be charmed.

Type Three waits before using Breaking Charm, and has a normal ranged Breaking Charm. They can be charmed.

The most common bear is Type Two. All you can do it keep trying until you find a Type Three.

Note that in order to do a quest in Post-Searing you will need a Melandru's Stalker.

Ah, so true, but not in the world of pre-searing where bears are cache items and necessary for those that refuse to leave.
