So, I was just reading Freekedoutfish's thread, which has been closed... He said that the skills didn't become available for his mesmer at Kainang and then worked out that it was because they were 'core.' What exactly is meant by this 'core' skill thing?

Core skills are available in every chapter. So by buying the core skills pack, he didn't reveal any new skills because they were already available at the trainer.
