Thumbs up I need some help I am new

Ok I am new to Guild Wars I bought Guild Wars Platinum Edition (Orginal Guild Wars and Eyes of the North). Anyway on with my questions, first off I want a class that can do decent damage while being able to survive, and secondly if anyone would mind helping me out ingame as well it would be apperciated (IGN at the moment vary).

Welcome to GW!

If you want a profession that can dish out a decent amount of damage and survive well, try the Warrior. This profession is also quite newb-friendly and relatively easy to get to grips with while you learn the ropes

Secondly - my IGN is listed under my forum avatar. Feel free to hit me up in-game anytime you see me on

The "paladin" could be a choice to u. This means that u have warrior as primary profession and monk as secondary profession. U can do damage as well as tank and heal. It's a good class for beginners.

If you want to try the Assassin or Ritualist, then you will need to buy Factions; if you want to try the Dervish or Paragon you will need to buy Nightfall.

You also get extra character slots and vault space if you add more of the games to your playing account, which is more than enough reason to own all the games in my opinion.

Hello, yes if you want to have access to a campaign specific profession you have to have the appropriate campaign ie. Factions for Assassin and Ritualist and Nightfall for Paragon and Dervish. Also I agree with the other two posters W/Mo is a very easy way to learn the game. If you decide to buy another campaign I would suggest Nighfall, you get more heros and imo its a lot more fun then Factions, although some may disagree.

One thing I will say about the W/Mo is in the beginning of the game it's pretty viable to run half of your bar with monk skills. But later one it typically isn't a good idea to devote attributes and skill slots to more than 2 monk skills (and try to keep them under the same attribute, too). Also, do not try and act as a secondary healer (a la WoW style) because you don't have nearly enough energy or energy regeneration to pull it off and still deal good damage (which is a warrior's specialty).

War would probably be your best bet. Some of the best dps in the game and heavy armor too.

I agree, a Warrior would be your best bet, but i favor Elementalist, because Dameage, and healing. But if i were new i would go with W/Mo.

Default Warrior/monk

My very first character I set up when I first started GW (I started on Nightfall) was a warrior/monk, and unlike most of the folks in GW I had NO previous experience as a "gamer". Warrior/monk is "simplistic" but that doesn't mean it isn't effective, and it worked really well and is still one of my two favorite characters - the other being a ranger. The two characters I've played the most and gone the "farthest" as far as the amount of terrain and how far in the game, are the warrior and ranger and everyone else is kinda far behind...

(I also have an ele, a paragon, and mesmer "primaries")

One thing I learned to appreciate about a warrior it too, is that when I did buy the other games (Factions and Prophecies), the warrior and monk were both common to all of them, and I could "cap" skills where ever I was playing...same thing for the ranger.
