Default How Out of Control Have the GM's Gotten with suspentions and Bans

so i currently purchased another character slot on my 4 game guildwars account that was originally opened during the Beta of Guild Wars. The character name i chose was " My Gash Hurts" implying the skill not a female anatomy part. so 3 days later i am kicked from my game while on a charr run and notified my account was suspended for 72 hours, the day before the double xp for elite skills comes in. when i ask why the check my account and notify me that allso my character named "Pre Menstrual" is unacceptable and that character will be deleted or renamed (unsure which yet).

I have replied to them with screen shots of public chat asking if anyone found the names offensive or unacceptable to plse pm me for a screenie, to my shock and awe non did. In fact the opposite i received alot of LOLZ and so forth. so now i have to loose or rename 2 of my characters that are 1 named after a skill in the game and 2 a pathetic only someone with a filthy mind would be offended by and im just blown away by how the GM's seem to think this is acceptable behavior. Oh and to give you a mark on your account to top it off. I have never been accused of or found to be using [ANY hack or exploiter in the game, and to be harassed and discriminated against in such a manner im beside myself.

I ask that everyone who has had a similar experience with a GM please post it so we can draw some attention to these issues, and maybe some one will do something for the players for once.

Thanks and Happy Gaming.

An inappropriate name is still an inappropriate name. This game was meant for people 13+. I don't exactly want to defend the GMs, but your names are still inappropriate.

How is saying that a skill you have used hurts? it is a warrior named my gash hurts. and it is a perm presearing char. Gash is a major skill in that area. all that was implied is that the skill does dmg nothing more. i guess my mind is not sick and twisted so i dont see it that way.

It would not matter if what you meant is fine or not. Even in ignorance, if it can have immoral and wrong connotations, then it is wrong. I would agree with the game admins, and if I was an admin, I would suspend your account and ask you to get rid of those names myself. Out of respect for others, and to keep the environment family-friendly and safe for all ages. If you were a parent, you would surely understand.

But by saying it is unacceptable are you not in essence saying that the skill title is unacceptable and is subject to change? What i did was not ignorant i just named a character after a skill, what some sick minded GM and apparently other players take it as is not of consequence thought right?

Whether you intended for it to be inappropriate or not doesn't matter. What matters is that it is, to a good number of people, inappropriate.

Censorship and over moderation isn't good it stifles creativity and expression. If its not directly offensive toward someone I think any name should be allowed ... however the names mentioned above are childish 13- and I and many others I know are not impressed at all with those that make names like that and sometimes wont allow similarly named characters in our party.

All of the names listed here were intended to offend. I don't care about your "Excuse". It's the same excuse used by "Roleplayers" who scam people and other crap because they are "Evil."

You knew full well what your name meant with it's double entendre. You did it on purpose. Not once, but at LEAST twice.

You deserve your ban and name changes.

It doesn't matter if people like your name. It's still wrong. Even if you are trying to say that the skill "Gash" hurts. Other people are obviously going to think it in the wrong way. If other people are laughing at you because they are thinking it in the wrong way, then it's inappropriate.

You DO have the freedom to name your characters whatever you wish - as long as those names fall within the bounds of the EULA, which you agreed to when you installed the game. Those names clearly violate the EULA and A-Net has every right to enforce the EULA.

hmm another QQ thread..

i find those names inappropriate.. so the 72 hour ban fits in my opinion. pick something else that has no possible way to be mistaken and you'll have no problems.

The EULA is, essentially, a contract. By having these inappropriate names (and they really, really are) you broke the contract. ANet has a duty to enforce the contract and punish those who break it. In your case, this is the suspension and name change.

If it were me, I'd ban you for repeated offenses. Freedom of speech and opinion is great and all, but my Harm Principle extends to emotional distress and offense for the sake of being offensive. Guess who broke that Harm Principle here!

Seems like the suspension and name changes were justifiable to me.
