Pre searing quests? - Guild Wars Forums

Based on other threads on pre searing and how to level up, it would seem doing quests should be reserved for higher level XPing. One guide says the only way to get past level 16 is to complete quests and death-level. Based on these guides, should I hold off finishing quests with my pre searing character?

If you're going for LDoA then saving the quests will save you some death leveling at the end.

Thanks Rave; so how about if I'm just goofing around in pre searing with no major intention to have the title? Should I still leave the quests alone? Another question I just remembered:

I have a primary profession, but haven't committed to a second. Should I leave that option open no matter what, or does it make little difference if you have it or not?

The only time you should save the quests is if your going for LdoA. If you wanna just stick around and charr hunt and such, having a second proffesion earlier would probably benefit.

You need to pick a 2nd profession, but feel free to put off the decision until you've done all the profession related quests that you can. That way you'll get a little bit more experience and a tiny bit of a feel for each profession before you commit yourself to one of them.

Don't fret though. Even if you discover that you picked a horrible choice for your 2nd, you can change it later. Although if Prophecies is the only game you own, then that will come much later in the game. It's the longest campaign and will take a while to get thru.

Some folks may tell you that it's bad to choose a 2nd profession until you are right ready to leave pre-searing. This used to be because you cannot leave pre-searing until you have a 2nd profession and several little kiddie morons thought it was funny to party with a perma-pre character and drag them into post-searing against their will. Arena net has since fixed this so it can't happen anymore.

Well let me start by saying that I am lvl 16 with 90% to my next lvl in presearing.

I would

1) get lvl 2 by killing wolves outside of ashford abby. Just agro them and run to the gaurd who will kill the wolf and then you get the xp. This seems to be the fasted way to lvl 2

2) then map to ascalon city and take the quest from the prince "Charr at the Gate" the wiki will comfirm this.

Then run outside and follow the prince and let him kill everything with the 2 npc's. Let the prince kill the 4 charr.

Then map back to Ascalon City. DO NOT talk to the prince outside after killing the charr. Once back in the city abandon the quest and then run up the stairs. Rnce and repeat.

Once you get good at this then try just letting the prince kill 3 of the 4 of the charr and then just map back to ascalon. This will eliminate the need to run back and forth up the stairs.

Try that till you get to lvl 10. For other suggestions try, www.presearing.com.

I myself chose not to do the quest until I was lvl 16. I chose ranger as my second for my war for 2 reasons. The first being the pet cause it does extra damage and draws the attention of the charr as they target it instead of me. the second reason is that I could then use Troll Ungent skill to generate health +8 ren at 10 in my winderness survival.

This brought me to 60% to lvl 17 so even doing all the quests at lvl 16 will not get you to lvl 17. To get ldoa title you must death lvl. I wanted to be stronger to farm solo faster. This is why I chose this path.

With regard to char at the gate quest..as can do this from the lowest level ,rather than map backwhen complete ..run back a little ,there's a bull in the right side pond
level 5 also thus u get that as well beforeyou map back and abandon and do over again for xp

Thanks for the [email protected] advise. My last question is; do you have to get a partner every time you want to hunt up the Northlands? Or is there a trick to get up there without a gate monkey? Another thing to mention is I bought the bonus mission pack that gives me max-level weapons for free (even in pre searing). Regarding those, would you say the sundering hammer or the poison bow are the best of the bmp weapons?

When going for LDoA, survivor, or for a perma-pre character, I find it easiest to do this:

1) Get all the towns and armor from crafters (saving Fort Ranik for last town is best as there is plenty of aggro along the way).

2) At lvl 2 or 3, go to Ascalon and do the Charr at the Gate quest until at least lvl 8. This is where it splits for the different goals.

Survivor:
3) Do the first 3 quests (Message From A Friend, War Preparations, and the quest from the first trainer). Then start (do not finish) the quests from the other trainers of your primary profession (that way you'll have 4-6 skills, depending on your profession).

4) Go back to doing Charr at the Gate for a safe slow leveling, or then work on all the quests. Be sure to do all Secondary Profession quests for max experience. Once done all the quests (should be at around lvl 11-13) leave pre with your survivor.

LDoA/Perma-pre:
3) Continue leveling till lvl 10 through Charr at the Gate.

4) Once lvl 10, do the first three quests and start the primary profession quests like for survivor. If LDoA, do not accept rewards other then the first 3 quests. If perma-pre, it doesn't matter if you do the quests from here or not, I don't suggest it in case you want to later get the title.

LDoA:
5) Charr level until lvl 16, at which point, continue the primary quest chain until the secondary profession, be sure to do each of the 5 secondary profession quests, and do the other quests. Once you have done all you should be lvl 18-19, at which point you will have to death level.

For perma-pre characters, doing this still allows you to have an easy way to get LDoA or Survivor if you ever want either of those, of course going for survivor means leaving pre.

As for the gate monkey question, only way to get up there is with the use of a speed boost, only one available in pre are the cupcakes, which only drop during certain events. Also, those weapons are not from the BMP, those are from the Game of the Year edition of prophecies, I like to use the shield with a sword or axe from the quests, along with the bow for pulling if going to charr hunt.

If you are not going for LoDA, then there is no point in not doing those quests, especially the profession ones to give you a slightly larger set of skills to use. But you can still get to lvl20 with those quests done early, it'll just take more time.

Secondary professions add more versatility to your character, but choosing one doesn't mean you have to utilize it. You will be able to change your secondary later in the game. If you only want to concentrate own skills from your primary, monk is a good choice for a secondary for the unlimited rezes it can later get.

And yes, you need a partner to get into the Northlands, no trick available to get around that.

As for weapons, depends on what you primary/secondary are and what skills you have placed on your bar. Though, of those two, I'd pick the hammer as there's nothing in pre-sear that can make use of the bows poisonous mod. Make sure you meet the weapon req. to do the stated damage. And those weapons come from your Game of the Year edition, the BMP is something else.

Cool, and thank for getting the bmp thing straight. My bad. Just thought of another question; can I abandon the primary quest "2nd Profession" and redo all 5 secondary profession trials as long as I never commit to a second profession? I think each completion is 200xp, times 5 professions should be 1,000xp right? Or does it work differently?

Always save your quests for the last it will save you alot of time of death lvling and that means you wont go crazy of boredom
