Default Should I sign up?

Hi,

I played WoW for a few years but gave up a while back. I feel like getting back into a MMORPG and like the sound of GW. I am just wondering seen as this game has been out for ages whether it is worth buying and starting to play?

Is there still a regular influx of new players playing the original game, I don't really fancy questing on my own until I reach the top level?

Does the game still have a thriving community?

Do I need to buy all the updates etc or can I comfortably just play the original?

I notice that Guild Wars 2 is coming at soon, should I just wait for this?

Cheers for the advice!

Well...
  • There is still an influx of players. Not as great as WoW though.
  • Find a guild. The game is doable without any assistance from others. If you want to play with other people, and have them be more helpful than the average pug, find a guild.
  • Unless you want to do more high-end PvP, you don't have to have all the expansions. If you want them, buy them when you finish one. Although there are some good bundles out there. Those are a good buy.
  • GW2 won't be out for awhile. There won't be an open beta this year, so it'll be some time. If you want to wait, you'll be waiting awhile.

Hope that helps a little.

There're a lot of ex WOW player asking about GW lately. Well it's depend on how you like your game. GW is more like an action online RPG, it has low lv cap, easy to get max weapons/armors. There're grind (minimum to optional), the epic gear counterpart in GW is only about look and nothing more.

People are still playing this, as far as I can tell there're new player coming in all the time. Although the number of total population is lower than what it once was imo.

I recommend you pick up a copy of Prophecies if you want a taste of the game. It's pretty cheap, well all of them are cheap now if you live in the UK. Don't hold out for GW2, it won't see the light of day til at least middle of 2009.

Y'know to be honest, if you used to play Wow you might enjoy AOC more than GW.

Thanks for the advice, I would play AOC but it would probably mean a system upgrade and I think it has a monthly fee?

I think I might give GW a go and see if I can find a casual laid back guild who can nurture my talents…

Cheers!

If you decide to get the game, you might want to check here for a guild.

Good Luck!

Hi there,

As previous posts have implied ..yes G/W i2 is a long way of yet

As you said buy Prophecies to me the best storyline.

Also you pick up a lot of your skills free by questing

As to try is out you are correct buy 1 and then you can add others to the same account if you decideyou wish to have more scope and visit other continents...Eye of the North is the only expansion

You can go there as a level 10 and your skills are buffed as a level 20

If you do purchase buzz me anytime in game if you seek any advice or assistance

We never pressure/ask anyone to join our Guild. So add my ign as shown on avatar if and when you do decide.

GW is still a great game, lots of new people coming on every day. I would suggest getting the Platinum Edition with Prophesies and GW:EN(More game play, skills, titles and the Hall of Monuments -a bonus for GW2.) I would also suggest finding a big helpful guild (although you can do about 90% with hero/henchies) and reading wiki before you start so if youd like to start titles you have a general idea what to do. GL!
