Well, I was looking online at Gamestop to see if the price of the Prophecies/EOTN Platinum pack had gone down because of the Trilogy pack, I didn't expect the Trilogy pack to be listed there as well though.

The Guild Wars Platinum Edition is still listed as $39.99

whereas

The Guild Wars Trilogy is listed as $49.99

I am hoping that by the time that the Trilogy Pack is released, the price of the Platinum Edition would go down, but I am not sure of this. I don't remember reading anything about a price drop either, does anyone know for certain whether a price drop would happen?

I'm sure someone at NCsoft would know, but they probably won't tell you.

Some people think it's odd that some prices in the on-line store are more than what they would expect and/or more than the prices at some retailers. But I think that has more to do with marketing than anything else - that is, by agreement, the on-line store is not going to undercut the retailers, because then the retailers will refuse to sell GW. So the prices in the on-line store will remain at "suggested retail" until the suggested retail is changed or in (retail) store stock is depleted or whatever.

(I know from experience that a "retailer" (me) will get quite upset if they get undercut by their own supplier (of game cartridges) and will take their business elsewhere. )

This is how it works. NCSoft sells a game or game package to distributors/retailers at a set price with a "suggested" retail. Those outfits then mark it up so that they can reap a profit. They begin at the suggested retail and move on to discounts after the first "rush to buy" is over.

NCSoft/PlayNC/ArenaNet will never sell at discounted prices or they might end up undercutting their retailers. That is not good business practice.

Gamestop is estimating the price at $50. If it goes up, you pay more.
