Question Should I buy Guildwars?

Hey guys/girls, I'm from the US and here's my dilemma.Lack of time. I'm too busy with schoolwork and sports that it eats up a lot of my time.

I do however have always loved to play mmorpgs, I've played crappy ones and I haven't gotten the chance to play the best mmorpgs.

So before I bore you, would Guildwars be correct for someone like me?One thing that worries me is that I feel I won't be having fun, I might not be able to join a Guild because maybe I can't always play with them and such.

I was considering playing hero battles but I don't know how that works out and I do want to eventually play pvp. So are Guilds really strict or would it be ok if I show up for the guild matches?

I'd like your opinion,I'm a little torn because I know GW is an awesome game so please help me!

I'm no where near an expert at this game but I think you can still have fun even though you don't play much. There are some guilds that dont mind if you only get on now and again. But if you were hoping to join the "best" guild and win all the time in PvP it would take alot of playing time.
Thats just my opinion. I might be wrong, wait for someone else to tell you something aswell.

one consideration to keep in mind...
is that most pvp requires all 3 campaigns+eotn
and then u'll have to work on gettin mostly everything unlocked to get into any teams

i'd personally stick wit school

and play a free mmo like pso instead lol

Yes you can do pretty well playing just an hour or two a night and there are no massive levels to grind to catch up with other players.

2-3 years ago the answer is yes.
now, the answer is no. buy a game a little earlier in it's lifespan and wait for gw2

Is gw2 coming out that fast? I though it was coming next year or something.I thought that I could play enough of the guildwars series to actually be ready for gw2.

but i personally think d3 will have more pick-up-play gameplay style than gw has

First off, Guildwars2 development only began a year ago, which was when they announced the game itself. (typically unheard of for a company to announce a game they haven't even begun development yet) so it is likely a few years off. And D3 will be old news by then, so i doubt they'll compete directly with it.

But to answer the OP, yes, the game is worth buying. With the package deals out right now you can get the 3 main games and the expansion for a fairly cheap price, or just one or two of the main campaigns for even cheaper. Even though the game is currently in a decline, there is plenty of content to keep a new player entertained for hundreds of hours. The game is still solid, the updates are still coming, its just that the community has grown restless over the course of 3 years, but aside from that, the gameplay is still as fresh as it was when the first game came out.
It's a smart buy for any mmo fan, but I wouldn't rely on it for the same longevity as other p2p games, just play in moderation and it will keep you quite entertained for awhile.

One nice thing about playing solo is you can set your own time. And with the instance focus and AI-helpers you can control, GW is an extremey solo-friendly MMO. There's only a small handful of places that you need just 1 or 2 people to go with. So as long as you don't mind that this is an anti-social MMO with limited PuGs and poor trading interface, its relatively good for those with limited time, with all the fast map travel zipping you around places.

I would wait for the 25th when the Trilogy comes out, that's a lot of content for $50.

Thanks for the comments guys/girls. I'll be sure to buy Guildwars, I'm just gathering up some money here and there to buy it.

I'll have a lot of questions when I get the game. :-)

Well I'm sure we will have lots of answers then. And like other said, you got plenty of time to do whatever in GW1 before GW2 comes out and most guilds don't care how often you are on unless you got like a month without playing.

If you have atleast one hour a night dedicated to Guild Wars then you'd probably beat all four games in about two to three months which isn't bad time for someone on your time limit. And yes, you'd have enough time to get prepared for Guild Wars 2.

Hey I would advise sticking with school,

This game has eaten up more than 2500 hours of my life. and for a 14 year old, that is quite allot.

I admit I am addicted to this game, now I do very badly at school ( not having time to do homework, but really I'm playing GW.

In the long run school is more important.

And as a PvP player myself I doubt you will really get anywhere with out all campaigns.

one thing about GW is you dont have to spend a lot of time to do most of the things. some does require a considerable time. you can also RA if you only have half an hour or so. if money is hard to come by i would suggest you get something else like D3 when its released. Or GW 2 but it wont probably come out for a year or two.

For your sake, stay with the school and sports. You'll thank me in five years or so.

Well look at it this way, I posted a thread a few days ago saying that I was waiting for my GW to be delivered and asked for a few updates and what had changed (since I used to play a few years ago), and I'm not playing much, just a few hours a day, and I'm already Level 16! Obviously I'm more used to how GW works etc but it is so easy to pick up you could be at Level 20 in a matter of days, and you'll love it so much more as it is your first time round playing!

As Pamelf said, add me ingame, my character name is just over the the left.

Have fun!

I just ordered Complete Collection (y)
I think this game is worth to trying. Well, before GW2 you have loads of time, i mean GW2 beta should had begins 2008 but it delayed into next year. GW is good game, i tried it with my friend account and i liked it Also, I think That low price it's only 50$ for all 4 games + bonuses ... it's better than good offer
That's strange i'v not tried it before :/ Because It's game from NCSOFT and this company is one of my favourite MMOPRG Lineage2 developer or sth... So after my good friend told me this game rock, then i saw NCSOFT and i wanted to try it

Anyway.. GL with Guild Wars

Pfft what do you mean just an hour or two? My time is eaten by college apps, sports and school...if I can sneak in 1 hour a day it's pretty good. But good thing for OP to buy GW is that it's free top play once you buy it...and it is a great game
