Default just a question

I started playing GW with friends and we all came up in levels together, but for some reason,I think we are all missing something here.I was hoping someone could help fill in the blanks. The game has become very hard for myself and my friends,so hard that we all have not played for months now.I am really at a loss as to what to do.We like GW and want to play, but I think the games we have will or have become a paper weight. We are all at or just below level 20 and we have level 16 and 17 monsters kicking our A$$,this is with 3 live players and the rest are henchmen. There is no way for us to upgrade our armor or weapons because we can not get anywhere in the game, and if we can't get anywhere, how do we upgrade??? The level cap and the penalty for dieing is the most unfair thing i have ever seen in a game. How can you beat monsters if you have a penalty for dieing that takes away from your hit points and magic points??? Maybe I;m wrong and maybe there is something I'm missing here, that is the reason for my post,so please don't take this as me bashing GW because it is not,I am just trying to understand what the heck is going on.
Thanks

Ok answer a few questions for me then I will tell you what you need to do.

1) What campaign?

2) What is the Armor Level do you have?(When you click I what number does it say on your armor pieces? 10 20 50 80? can be a bunch of different numbers.)

3) What classes are you?

There are also simple things you could be doing wrong. Bad skill bars is one. Not healing people or protting when you are a monk. I mean stuff like that. Over aggroing. Even though you are almost level 20 if you aggro 25 enemies then they are gonna kill you.

My first guess is you have never bought new armor and are still in starter armor and are taking huge damage like 80+ in one hit.

Edit: If you guys don't like this game try Runes of Magic(RoM) free download and F2P...it is a great game open beta just started the 15th I have been playing it since then and have only started up gw's one time since then. But I have been looking for a new game for months you guys will probably enjoy guild wars once you get the hang of it. Me I am tired of broken mechanics/bad economy and mean players.

Yeah agree with the above comment. Make sure you have a monk or two in your party, or a ridiculous amount of self heals. Also How far have you been exactly? I can help you to get to an armor trader or a skills trainer.

You need to re-rune your armor. Using a superior & a major has cost you a mass of health points for worthless buffs.

Get a minor strength and a minor tactics and a minor hammer. Replace the existing runes except for the Vitae. Don't use any major or superior (except Vigor) runes until you are level 20 and the build you are using requires it.

The absorption runes are pretty useless. They are not universal and only give the protection to the armor piece they are installed onto.

What is your attribute point spread? What skills are you using?

If you are in Beacons Perch I'm gonna take a guess that you have gone out into Lornars Pass - Thats an area you really dont want to do just yet as the enemies are a much higher level than you and will kick your bottom.

Talk to Master Saberlin and do the 3 quests he offers then head out thru Deldrimor Bowl and explore out there - eventually you will make your way to Griffons Mouth and your adventures will continue if you head that way.

Hope that helps

Use good tactics and you will win through ok

Lure the opposition split groups up don't just slam head on into mobs fight them when and where you choose.

2 monks minimum
(ideally 1heal+1prot or 2heal)

and get rid of the health loss runes

oh and of course make sure to target (focus fire)
and do not over-aggro

You can just overlay the runes onto the existing ones. The runes you have are all 100g ones so I see no benefit in trying to salvage them for resale. The NPC would only give you 25g for them.

For the record, only one rune of each type can be used (except for Vitae and Attunement). They do not stack and a second rune of the same type is of no benefit.

You are using two Absorption runes; only the major is working on that armor piece. The other one is disfunctional and gives no protection.

Over-aggro is getting the attention of too many foes at the same time. Get a longbow and learn to pull a few monsters at a time by targeting one with the bow and getting him to leave the group area and come towards you. Keep your aggro circle (notice on radar) from touching foes you don't want to attract.

Read this thread in the Campfire section - Warrior subforum http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10326347

If your friends are using different professions, have them go to the appropriate subforum and read the stickied basic profession thread.

Over aggro: When your party gets the attention of more foes than is feasable to kill before you're overwhemed.
Most foes hang out in small groups, and the whole group will attack you if one of their party enters one of your party's aggro bubbles.
Often there will be a number of groups in the same area, and if you're not careful you'll get the attention of foes from different groups...and then you have twice the fun as both groups attack

The trick is to wait for groups to drift apart a bit, or to use a longbow to get the attention of one foe without attracting other groups (pulling)

As for runes off armor:
You can apply new runes on old runed armor, although you lose the old runes when the new are applied
You can use an expert or superior salvage kit to remove the old rune first....although there is a risk of losaing the armor piece in the process of retreving the old rune
You can use a perfect salvage kit which will remove the rune without risking loss of the armor piece - but these kits are only available in the Eye of the North expansion, so you'd have to get someone with access to the relevent trader to get those for you

That doesn't effect the damage that you as it is still the same even at -60%.

Thanks to everyone,I'll pass the info along to my friends and we'll try it again.I come from the older games,i'm sure everyone has heard of them, the single player party based RPG games,Might and Magic,Wizardry 8, wizards and warriors ect. This mmorpg stuff is new to me,I would much rather see the party based rpg's come back, but i guess this was the next step in RPG games,i'm trying to give it a chance.
Thanks again to everyone

I thought they were universal and not local. It used to be local and not universal, and the Knight's Insignia being universal and not local, but I recall an update where Anet changed it.

Well other people seem to have just about answered anything. So here ya go.

Go to the sub forums like they said and read basics on your guys classes.

I am sure there is a guide on pulling and how to not over aggro just search these forums.

My only other suggestion is go to PvxWiki: http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

These builds aren't gonna all be very good but find some that you like that you can use and might get you started on decent skillbars. If you need any help pm me at Melony Songbringer in game but I don't know how often I will be on anymore. If you want I will give you a little money to get you started since I don't ever use it.

I just wanted to add:

Don't get bogged down in trying to maximize your runes and getting perfect weapons. You can get through the game easy with some minor skill-boosting runes -- just use good tactics. IMO the runes will help a tiny bit and maybe save your ass if you have good health boosts, but that's rare.

I hate to say it, but the guild wars wikis (official or unofficial) are necessary if you want to avoid extreme frustration with some of the more difficult missions.

In most cases: Make sure you have either 1 good healer or two "ok" healers.

I thought they once were. Warriors put it on every piece of armor that didn't all ready have a rune. Wasn't this why it was 100k? And then Knight's Insignia was global so Warriors had only one piece of it, usually the gloves or boot. But then an update swapped it, right? I did some research on GuildWiki and confirmed Knight's Insignia, but nothing was said about Runes of Absorption.

Runes of Absorption reduce damage by 1-3 depending on potency. Minor Runes of Absorption reduce physical damage by 1, Major by 2, and Superior by 3. Runes of Absorption only reduce damage from physical damage and have no effect on spells or other sources of damage. Runes of Absorption do not stack with each other. This effect is global.

I stand corrected as to the Absorption rune coverage http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Damage_reduction

But I would still go for this rune setup:

strength (on the helm for the extra attribute point)
hammer
health (a Vigor rune or a couple of Vitae)
tactics

I don't see where lowering damage by 1 is worth a slot. And losing 35 health points to lower damage by 2 is a bad trade for under level 20.

He is fighting, not tanking, at this point in the game. Having high health so he can survive until Alesia gets around to throwing a heal his way is very important.

He can't use pvx for builds because he doesn't have the skills to make those builds.

Major and Superior Runes of Absorption do not have a health penalty, so the Major Absorption is not costing the OP any health. Which is not to say that makes the -2 damage a great benefit, which is another debate.
