Default Treasure hunting

So i am beginning to become a treasure hunter and so far i have opened 2 out of 100 high end treaure chests. My question is there any tips and tricks of the trade?

Also, I have once found chests in the luxon field and when i leave the fields and enter again it is not there, why?

1. Personally I'd only use lockpicks in Hm [hardmode] because most chest you encounter, except towards the end of each campaign, don't add to the treasure hunting title.

You can buy lockpicks from merchants for 1.5k, or usually you can buy from people for 1.25k

Try and buy from people, even though it is only 250g difference, it'll add up, believe me.

use the search button for other threads on chests and the title.

And the reason that the chest is not there is because chests spawn randomly, they are never guaranteed in the same spot.

The location of the Chests is random.

Thread about Treasure Hunting.

Good luck, only 9,998 to go for max.

Treasure HUnting chests are random, but not any chest will count. The way to determine which chests will add to the title is based on the cost of the key you would use. If the key for a chest costs 600g or more, that chest would count toward the Treasure Hunter title. Lockpicks will count toward the title, but ONLY if it is used on a chest with a key that costs 600g or more, or on a chest in HM (Locked Chest).

So if you use a Lockpick on a chest in NM that is in Ascalon, it will not count towards the Treasure Hunter title. Some areas are better for finding a chest, but even those are random. I have founf that the more efficient method is to use a Lockpick on chests in HM for the early areas like Istan, Shing Jea, and Ascalon. The ability to use the Lockpick more than once means you don't spend as much money on buying more, and the retention rate is higher in low level areas. As you increase your Lucky and Treasure Hunter titles, the lockpick retention will increase.

Here are some links that should help you out.

http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Treasure_Hunter

http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lockpick

Use the second link to determine whether you should use a lockpick or key. In the beginning using keys is the best way to do it. As your levels in treasure hunter and lucky increase using a lockpick a more financially sound method

You can usually get one from this guy running Zodiak's Lockpick Emporium in Doomlore shrine. Usually polite speedy person with creative advertising

Yeah, Zodiak even sells waffles with his picks. :-D And of course all of the Eye of the North chests counts as they need a pick to open even in NM. Good luck I'm like less then 150 from rank 5 treasure hunter.

I can't think of any special tricks or tips, but....

- for chests that take a 600g key, you may be slightly better off cost-wise, to get keys instead of lockpicks. For more expensive chests, lockpicks are more cost effective.

- don't waste your time opening chests that are not "high end" (keys cost less than 600g). They won't contribute to your title and the stuff you get out of them (that isn't outright crap) is generally only useful to new players.

- using lockpicks will contribute to your lucky/unlucky titles.

- Buy you lockpicks in bulk - you should be able to get 80 for 100k.

- You'll get a lot of crap out of the chests, but you will also get good stuff. If you go to the trouble of selling the good stuff, overall you should break even. If you get even deeper into selling stuff, you could actually make money. (Using Guru auctions is a good way to sell stuff)

I got grandmaster treasure hunter in a moderately short amount of time, here's my advice.
If you have eye of the north, just repeatedly run fronis irontoes's lair (out of gunnars) it takes roughly 1 minute for each chest (just run in, open the chest, zone out, repeat - don't finish the dungeon if you're going for speed) The skins will be pretty much worthless unless you're luckier than I am, but you'll get tons of max mods to sell, as well as runes (I got 6 or 8 superior vigor from there)

Also, you can open low end chests if you use lockpicks - it'll increase your lucky title which will help you retain more picks. Don't bother using keys there, it's not worth it.

Oh, I should say don't bother using lockpicks unless you're at least r2 lucky and r1 or 2 treasure hunter, as you'll be spending way more on picks than keys. Stick with keys until you get there (I did a lot of jade sea runs with keys, at the time I was in a guild that owned a town and I could buy them at a discount)

Wrong Wrong Wrong.

Do not listen to these people AT ALL. ALWAYS USE a LOCKPICK. ALWAYS in NORMAL MODE.

Geesh. Make me wonder if anyone here actually knows the amount of GRIND needed for this title.

So For Treasure Hunter open 600 Gold Chests with your LOCKPICK as this will advance your Lucky and Unlucky Title as well. As these progress you will find that you keep more and more picks.

I currently have lvl 4 treasure hunter, lvl 3 unlucky and lvl 2 lucky lvl 2 wisdom.

Like an idiot I listened to people here and did keys and lost BIG TIME gold cause the 600 gold chests with keys are a loss of 400-500 gold a pop and you get zippo for the other titles.

Boreal Station and Killrooooyyyyyyyyysss Boxing are the Fastest Chest runs. Boreal station can have 2 chests easy and the Boxing ALWAYS has a chest.

My retention rate for Eye of the north NM is 56% and I brake them more than I keep them.

My retention rate for southern shiver peaks is 72% and I still get treasure hunter and un/lucky points.

Give you 3 guesses where I have been farming chests when the festivals are not on...
