Default Best Duo?

I'm looking to pick up the platinum pack for my wife and I and I was wondering what the best two classes would be paired together. I generally prefer the "tankish" types while she enjoys the DPS casters. I appreciate any info you guys can toss our way.

Assassin + RoJ Monk or mesmer.
Warrior + RoJ Monk or mermer
Warior + Ele
Assassin + Ele

That's all I can think of right now. There are other options, but I get the impression that the way you play is: You run into the enemies, killing them along with any heroes/henchies you have along, while she stays back and nukes the hell out of them

be carefull with the RoJ monk, that skill could get nerfed again don't chose a char on just one great skill

although monk is a great char atm for party buff and dps (with roj) its normally a supportive char, but its also great as a farming partner too.

ritualist is a good dps char too and can help with weapon spells on the warrior lets say.

melee: warrior, assassin, dervish (in this order imo)
caster dps: ele, ritualist, mesmer, monk (in this order imo)
ranged dps: ranger (with barrage elite skill)

Hopes this helps bit too

I thought about adding a ranger as the DPS choice, but he said caster, and Rangers aren't casters, even though they've got some good options for damage.

And I totally forgot about Ritualist. That's what I get for only using mine for farming.

I'd do as Bobby says, you as warrior, and your wife as necro. It's pew pew pew.

warrior and elementalist/monk/necro. ele is pure nukage, monk can nuke or heal, necro can nuke, hex, heal, minions and is prolly most versatile

Guild Wars doesnt really have a "Tank" position, except for particular farming groups.

As a Warrior, Assassin or Dervish, your goal is to dish out lots of melee damage, The dervish is a bit underpowered at the moment. I would suggest either a warrior. Warriors can take more damage, and apart from specific builds, deal more damage over time than an Assassin. Assassins can provide huge amounts of DPS with a specific build, but using that same thing constantly can get repetetive and boring. An assassin can also make effective use of the Dervish's Scythe weapon, which can provide a decent amount of DPS. Dervish's and pretty underpowered currently, if they seem like a class you want to play, dont let the fact they are underpowered hold you back, you will still manage the game fine.

In terms of a DPS caster, Elementalist seems like the obvious choice. Other classes tend to play a hybrid role at best, such as a ritualist using some damage skills, and some buff skills. Or a Necro, using Hexes that will apply DPS, along with some buff skills for your allies, and or debuffs to put on enemies.

In my opinion, what is "best" is whatever is the most fun for the wife.
So, have her try a few professions like ele, nec, rit or mesmer to find the style of backline damage she enjoys. I doubt us telling you what prof to play carries any weight at all.

You can tank with most professions. Some are more efficient than others depending on where you are playing. So, the same advice applies... experiment to find what is most fun for you. Just make sure your wife's character gets the dominant role for damage. If she's happy, you'll be happy (if you get my meaning).

This. Although many 'classics' work in many areas.

Monk+Necro (55/600 + SS/SV)
Sin+Necro (perma + SS)
Sin+Monk (perma + RoJ)
Ele+Necro (Obby + SS)
Ele+Monk (Obby + RoJ)

As you can see, it is mainly finding a 'tank' that can stay alive alone or with minimal support, and then the 'nuker' can bea large number of things. Rits, Rangers, Mesmers, Eles, Necros, and Monks typically fit the 'nuker' role, but these are all FARMING based.

If you want to actually play the game (quests, missions, etc.) then you won't want to run with just 2 characters. In that case, ANYTHING can work, and you should pick classes you will enjoy.

My hubby does ranger with barrage and I do necro with ss and barbs. We motor through all campaigns with our sabway heroes. Lots of fun and have vanquished, carted and HM missions with all four campaigns. Great way to spend time with your significant other.
