Default How?

My other Guild Wars account got hacked a while ago and my armor got deleted, and my storage got cleaned out. On that account I had Ranger Obsidian armor, and about 3+ elite sets of armor on every other of my 5 characters. This has meaning to what I'm about to say by the way..

A few days ago I learnt that you may be able to get some of the rare materials back when you salvage armor, and that I feel would be a motive to hack my account. However, I can't help but ask how? How did someone get my account details? I did a virus scan after I found out about my account being hacked and that found no viruses, you can't guess my account details from my username either, and the e-mail address I used was an abandoned one that didn't even use the same password.

Am I wrong in thinking that someone specifically hacked my account for the materials from my armor, and everything else? Or was it just a random keylogger that got my details?

Thanks.

Probably a keylogger, because you weren't being safe, and downloaded illegal files. there's not much you can do, but move on to another game.

Don't over sell yourself, it was either a random keylogger or a "friend" or you where not as secretive as you thought. No one is specifically targeting you.

It's always a good idea to have a separate spyware scanner, as the antivirus can miss some of the more passive ones.

A random keylogger that got your account e-mail and password wouldn't know the difference between a guild wars login and let's say a photobucket login, which also uses an e-mail address/password login system.

Cances are you gave your account/pw away to somebody targeting GW players specifically. You *may* have been targeted by a keylogger meant specifically for GW players if you downloaded any 3rd party programs meant to be used with GW.

The most common way of compromising your account however is and always has been phishing. Chances are you filled out a "beta application" complete with your username and password or something similar.

And likely they didn't specifically target you for armor. They got your info, logged onto your account and took what they could. Armor? sure. but that likely wasn't the primary reason. I've heard some hackers will simply delete armor/customized weapons out of malice. Same for deleting characters.

This was ages ago, like 2+ years ago, but the question of just how I got hacked recently came back into my conscience, so I thought I'd ask here. Also, I've got another account now and a new PC. I hardly download anything on this either unless I know it's secure.

I actually thought it was a little bit arrogant to ask, but I wanted to know non the less.

Thanks to everyone else for answering too.
