Im partial to the dragon staff. (canthan skin)
Not sure if astral staff comes in fire magic and too lazy to look right now.

There is no difference between two staffs aside from the mods, and all non-green items can be modded to suit your prefrence. If you want to look at each of the mods for greens I reccomend using guild wiki. It's hard to give you correct mods when I have no idea what farming build you are refering to. Judging by your interest in earth weapons, I'm going to infer that you will be using some form of terra tank; run either a staff or a martial weapon with 20% enchant modifier as it's important to maintain stoneflesh aura and lengthen the duration of sliver armor.

Isn't there a weapon suggestion posted on the PvXwiki page from the build you are using?

Yes, because EVERYBODY uses builds from PvX.
/sarcasm

The OP didn't mention a build, or where it came from (until later). Although not all do, most Earth Magic builds rely on enchantments other than the Attunement. This makes any staff with a +20% enchantment mod useful. For Fire, I'd recommend a wand+focus with 40/40 for casting. When you have the funds or get the drops, it would be best to have various sets for any attribute you use, and switch based on the build and need.

You have a couple of problems here.

First, if you're solo farming, exactly what is the purpose of Rebirth? Who do you plan to rez? It's a waste of a skill slot.

Second, running an ele build without an ele attunement is not generally a good idea.

Third, are you sure you need Obsidian Flesh? Where are you farming? OF is essential if you're going to be farming caster mobs such as spectral vaettir or kappa outside Gyala Hatchery, but you aren't going to be doing either one with that build.

If you'll tell us where and what you want to farm and what campaigns you have available, we can give better advice on your build.

In my vision, someone who comes up with his own farming build should also be able to gather the appropriate weaponry. Because OP couldn't I assumed he pulled the build form PvX.

drop rebirth, go /me secondary, drop glowstone, add stone striker and mantra of earth, and run geomancer's insignia. AoE damage is probably more useful than stone dags, hawk, and ash blast.

Best = best looking ?

Pretty much depends on your armor. I mostly use Celestial Staves, Celestial Scepters or Cockatrice Staves. But it's not too easy to find 20/20 Versions of those or Scepters with good dual mods since they dont come inscribable.

If you were asking for best stats.... then it pretty much depends on your builds.

well i'm not a solo farming for starters i use heroes/henchies and i tend to do more aoes and spam cheap single target spells to kill stuff quicker and i use rebirth to rez just in case things go bad and i gotta get a healer up quick
i'm just looking for upgrades for staff or wand & focus combos for fire and earth magic i haven't found a good use for air or water magic just yet haven't been playing in awhile just got back into it not too long ago and just lookin for some help and direction.

oh yeah i have the original guild wars, faction and nightfall and i've mainly been farming in nightfall figured i'd get a up to date weapon.

forgot to mention working on getting money to get my new gear, i'm using the sunspear set atm.

First of all, don't use Rebirth in a fight. It makes you lose all energy (bad for ele) and the monk you res has his skills disabled after ressing in addition to only have 25% hp and also zero energy. You will only put much much more strain on your party by using Rebirth mid-battle.

You should look at the differences between staves and wand/offhand sets and decide which one you want to go for based on the builds you use. If you're using several enchantments, a staff with an enchanting mod might be a good choice. A wand and offhand both with 20% half casting time and 20% half skill recharge is also a populair choice for elementalists.

Finally, I suggest you save for max armor (60 armor rating) if you don't already have it. It is available in the Consulate Docks for example.

just found a hale earth staff with some decent stats just need to find the right script and its the crystalized look too <3 i changed my build up some today
stone daggers, ebon hawk, unsteady ground, churning earth, eruption, kinetic armor, earth atune, ok so still not perfect but stone daggers keeps kinetic armor refreshed while i spam and atune recycles some mana so its a start for a good idea lol i noticed don't have a couple of spells suggested so going to farm some junk to salvage and sell to material venders to make the money...this is going to take awhile to get everything its a good thing i finished work on my ranger has full ancient set and good bow

Much better.

As you gain experience, Stone Daggers and Kinetic Armor should be the first skills to go. Stone Daggers is weak and requires line-of-sight. Outside of solo farming, an ele should rarely require any sort of armor spell, and particularly not one as high-maintenance and vulnerable to interrupts as Kinetic Armor. If you have a slot to spare, then Stoneflesh Aura or Armor of Earth would be better choices, since they stay up for a long time and will generally mitigate damage long enough for you to get away from the source. But more damage and e-management are more important than armor spells.

Given the use of a couple of high-cost spells in that build (especially Eruption), you might want to consider GoLE (Glyph of Lesser Energy) to help with your e-managment.

As much as I like Churning Earth, it really isn't all that good in NM. You might want to consider bringing Maelstrom, instead. Don't put any points into Water Magic, but just use it to drop an interrupt bomb on caster mobs. Again, GoLE will help with the energy costs of this.

If you're not going to use the Ebon Hawk - Glowstone combination, then consider replacing Ebon Hawk with Stoning. A ward or perhaps a snare (Earthen Shackles synergizes well if you have an RoJ monk on the team) are other possibilities. If you ever get EotN, look into Magnetic Surge.

i have stone striker, unsteady ground, churning earth, eruption, earth atune, stoneflesh aura, gole, mantra of earth, however not sure what i should swap out for other choices given i've focused on aoes and knockdowns for so long lol
although i think i don't have enough cheap spells to spam and since most of my time is spent in the vortex been trying to use henchies to get through most of it so like i said most of my farming time has been on and off lol

That's a pretty poor suggestion considering the primary effects of both Stoning and Glowstone require weakness.
