Monks are the universal healers, and thus needed in just about every format/area. (Both PvE and PvP)

Eles have some nice niche skills, especially late game, so they're a good choice aswell. (I assume you're new to GW)

In PvE, the general rule of the thumb is:

If you like playing the class, play it. Despite what many believe, every class has got some viable bar for each area, and are therefor playable. Though note if you pick Paragon, Dervish or Mesmer, you are going to have a rough time finding groups.

WOOT Monk/ELE is what I PLAY!!!

Ok my skills are,

Ray of Judgement [Elite]
"You move like a Dwarf" - Causes Knock Down, Inturupt, Damage so foes stay in RoJ/Firestorm
Healing Breeze
Casigniation (spelling is bad) Signet..gives energy if foe is attacking
Mark of Rodgort
Fire Storm
"Pain Inverter" - causes High level bosses with Aoe skills to die VERY VERY fast
What ever you want here - Skills cap or Res or BANE for extra knockdown if attacking or
Sniper Support - "One Shot, One Kill"

I have 3 Hero's
2 are Necro MM other is Healer
Henchmen are always the monks and then Claude (blood rit henchman) or his equivilant and then I like the earth Henchman to round out my team of 8.

So basically I am hammering out the AoE damage and my 20 minions are swarming for the Meele and Body blocking while I get healed by the 3 monks.

There is TONES of damage by the minions and RoJ/Move like a Dwarf and mark of rodgort with Firestorm. If RoJ gets rupted then I just Firestorm them. The Both do not get rutped in PvE.

So before you say that build bites and monks are for healing only giv ethat build a shot. You will find that even DoA is NO MATCH for YOUR MIGHT!!!

Ranger/[whatever] is the best for me. I say "whatever" for the 2nd professions since i like to play my rangers as single class, the only non-ranger skill in my bar is usually "Rebirth", the rest is pure ranger and with it you can kick a** through the whole game.

The other two best combos i have tried (always considering i got only the base campaign) are W/R (hammer warrior specially) and N/R curses, bow + interrupts) (or N/Mo can be great too, specially playing blood+death)

whatever you feel comfortable with is good. You dont need to play what everyone else is playing (heck if we had only sins or monks.....)
My first character was an e/mo (still is too)...I have a great time playing that class. MOST character classes are quite acceptable now, some will find it harder to get into a pick up group, but if you find a good guild that shouldnt matter.

What?! No warrior love?

My warrior has gotten through all campaigns, cartographer, vanquishing, you name it.

But imho it all depends what you enjoy playing, I started as a necro and played it for a year, but once I changed to warrior I was hooked and found the class that made the game the most fun for me.

It is not always about what best to get through the game, but the most fun you will have going through the game.

Agreed on picking what you will enjoy. All classes can do ANYTHING in the game. But not all classes are fun for all people to play. Just because a Monk can find PUGs easier, and they are needed everywhere does not mean you will enjoy playing it. And why play at all if you don't enjoy it? Most people I know and play with regularly have several characters they play, but they each have different preferances. I like Ranger best, Necro second, and Rit third. But one of my closest friends is Elementalist, Necro, then Rit. Similar to each other, but while I love Ranger, my friend uses her Ranger simply for storage, and my Elementalist is my second least used character.

So play a few different ones, and the one you enjoy the most, play the most.

ive taken 1 of each profession through all 3 games + a second ranger. the one i enjoyed least was my dervish. only my ranger, mesmer, rit and assassin have ventured into EoTN and are also my main HM characters. my monk and paragon have done a little HM and eventually all my non-mains will finish a young heros book and then probably not used much after that as i need to work on some titles eventually once more solid GW2 info is released as to what the titles will actually do for us in GW2.

I noticed you have 3 elementalist. You don't not need 3 of them but just 1. In the game you will have the ability to change your secondary. You will also have the choice of having all classes as your secondary and change them on the fly as many times as you want.

Warrior. I know many people who are Warriors, and have completed GWAMM ( Completed a total of 30 titles ) and many such accomplishments. Via tank, I am able to run campaigns, or individual missions for my guildees. With a simple triple necro healer/Damage/Prot-MM combo, > 5 hours per campaign is possible if rushed, and you are very experienced. Being a tank in PvE provides ease for your caster heros.

If you want to pug, monk if you want to get a party real quick. If you are a H/H guy, go warrior.

@OP

1) Using your Warrior to tank is a massive waste. There are no areas in the game the require tanking, so don't get into the habit of thinking 'this is hard, get a tank'. Maybe that is how it is in other games you've played, but not in GW. Tanking is slow and redundant and sacrifices your massive damage potential.

2) Ignore the people worshiping triple necro builds. They'll get the job done somewhat efficiently but they're nowhere near the best thing to be running.

Agreed. There really is no "best" class in GW (unlike in some other RPGs), so play what you like the most.

GWAMM is achievable on any class (if you are into useless titles. )

In the Nightfall and Eye of the North campaigns you can get heroes: customisable henchmen. The most commonly known 3 hero setup is called 'Discordway' which uses 3 Necromancers all with Discord. People think it's the greatest thing on earth because for the most part it's capable of doing everything itself. It doesn't rely on the player to do anything. Thus, bad players who would normally get smashed everytime they go out will succeed with flying colors, and so praise Discord. If they were actually half-decent, they'd see how inefficient Discord is.
