When your post contains words in the Guru swear filter it replaces it with that. iirc there's something about it in the Q&A FAQ sticky.

Bot shouldn't be in the filter. iirc there really isn't much in the filter anyway. I know of only two words that will get blocked. If you were to write out 'wtf', f will get blocked. You did mention you opened the thread to flame it.

it's pretty lame and bland if you ask me, it happens when you swear or something.

I only have 3 requests

If you smoke you don't blow the smoke in my face.

If you drink you don't pee down my leg

And if you want to curse and swear you go into a room and do it privately.

Why anyone would want to post it on a forum or in game is beyond me, sure I swear often enough myself.
Usually its because I just hurt myself or got a huge bill in my mail so I vent off.
By the time I boot up the computer and log on to the forum the urge has worn off.

You can look at the swear filter as an ott reaction to a little colourful language and that's your right, others have their rights too so they filter it out.

Looks like the filter made a mistake or a misspelling of a word cause the problem, filters are not that clever or accurate.

Items two and three I agree with. As for Item one, I smoke so I don't mind the smoke. I will however try hard to keep the smoke away from non-smokers if I know it bothers them.

There is no need to curse or swear either in game or on the forums. When someone does it just tells me that they lack the skills to properly express themselves. I treat them accordingly.

1. I blow smoke in peoples faces all the time and 2. It's called freedom of speech and frankly people getting offended over a non-racially fueled word is a bit stupid imo.

You wouldn't not read Shakespeare because he cussed right? You won't read it because it's long and I hate reading books.

RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO a magic dragon, drinking in the sea

hey it is better than just deleting the word.

and i agree profanity is used only by the least creative.

btw, there is no freedom of speech when someone else owns the message board.

Of course it's not a freedom of speech issue, Freedom of speech as used by Americans in regards to their constitutional rights only provides protection from limitations on their speech by THE GOVERNMENT. It isn't a universal freedom, and it certainly doesn't apply to private message boards, forums or game servers.

I know this, and I'm not an American.

As for profanity being used by the least creative... George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Hunter S. Thompson, William S. Burroughs... you're right, these were some of the least creative humans to ever grace this planet.

Lenny Bruce was not afraid!

So why are you?

1. Freedom of speech should not be confused with "freedom of expression". Freedom of speech allows you to express your opinions/thoughts freely, but that doesn't mean that the manner in which they are expressed can't be regulated.
In other words, Freedom of Speech allows Nerel to express the thought that he wants to have sex with you, but it doesn't guarantee that he can say "f__k you" to express that idea. That would come under "Freedom of Expression" or "Gay rights"

2. Yes, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, etc. were creative. They knew that using profanity would endear them to the less intelligent/frat-boy crowd, so they used it as a marketing ploy. Bill Cosby, who is arguably the best comedian ever, never needed profanity.

3. I am not afraid - I am grown up - and when you grow up, you'll understand.
