yes chichi is a very popular part of japanese speech...and its the dad instead of father kind (more like when we say mommy instead of mother) so usually used only in familiar company----your friend Chthon, should have used otousan (the polite form).

(heck you can see chichi in american as well---any one ever been to Chi Chi's restaurant?? or heard of Chi Chi Rodriguez?)

just about ANY word can be demoralized into a slang word, some just have more......

In a game I used to play, the language filter cut out "sack", "cave" and "balls" from chat -- and all three of those are also descriptions for items in the game.
