Default [New to Guild Wars]

Hello Guys&Girls , my nickname is Xrystofer and i am new to the forum and Guilds and i used to play Dark age of Camelot for some years

I started playing Guild wars for the following reasons
1:being bored
2:wanted to play something
3:waiting for gw2 and want the bonuses
4:guild wars is awesome
5: no Subscription fee

So far i had a blast doing campaigns , i first started with an assassin but i decided i wanted an elementalist.
I have done a bit of Nightfall and prophecies however i am having difficulties due to being new to the game, not knowing skills well and some other issues.
being a newbie is hard so i would like everyone to share their knowledge with me, so i have a few questions&requests

I am currently doing Nightfall campaign done about 8/20 missions but i am having some difficulties due to hero builds

I am thinking about this hero setup
Me(elementalist)
Warrior
2xDervish(maybe one Mesmer when I'll get one)
2xMonk
ranger
Necro
I found a few builds here But i can't judge them since i am not so good with skills yet.
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Category:A...ng_hero_builds
I am doing pvp to unlock them.

also having equipment problems.
so far i know that getting end game armors isn't that hard only the skin changes however if am correct you can't put inscriptions on crafted weapons

[Q]so should i start with crafted weapons and steadily upgrade my equipments to inscription weapons ?

ps:Looking for an active pve guild also, the one i am currently in

Thanks in Advance!

Hello and welcome to GW!

First thing about heroes is that they are only as good as their builds. Until you get enough skills unlocked you might find that the Henchmen are actually better for some missions/quests.

Secondly, when it comes to crafted weapons and armor you can add mods and inscriptions/runes and insignias to them. However armor from Collectors can not be given inscriptions. As long as the weapon has an inscription slot you can add any inscription to it, even overwriting the existing inscription is possible.

Found this nice guide for Heroes in the forum which looks cool
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/h...t10474776.html
I will research it and decide on my Builds, however a suggestion for a all-round hero setup for doing campaigns would be appreciated

You have to make do with the skills you have early on for your heroes. Remember to check hero skill trainers in Nightfall. Go out and capture skills if you have the plat to do it.

For long term goals, go to pvxwiki and look up Sabway. The N/Rit healer is very good, as is the minion master build.

By the time you finish Nightfall you should be decently equipped and you will have many excellent adventures along the way. Your greatest asset is your DAoC experience. Like DAoC, there is a lot to learn in GW.

I haven't read through it all properly yet but one thing I notice is that you're using the wrong wiki. As far as GW goes, never ever use any wiki with 'wikia' in the URL. Non-official wiki - PvX - Official wiki.

Okay, that's fine for some skills -- sometimes you'll need skills that are deep in a campaign and a long way off from being able to earn/buy/capture them normally. In that case, using Balthazar Faction is a good idea. However, always keep in mind that every 5k Balthazar Faction is worth about 5-6 platinum when traded for Zaishen Keys and sold to players.

Always look up a skill on the wiki to see where you can obtain it in game. If the skill can be bought in Kamadan or Shing Jea Monastery, you're better off using one of your spare character slots to create a temporary character of that profession to buy the skill from the skill trainer. New characters start out having to pay very little for skills. Your only limitation will be skill points. If you run out, just start a new character to pick up the process. Or do a quest or two or kill some monsters to level. It'd be much faster than earning 1k Balthazar Faction.
Any skills you unlock this way can be used by your heroes.

It's also worth considering doing this with each profession in either Factions or Nightfall and going through the newbie tutorials so you can unlock the starter skills for free.

This may sound like a lot of effort to unlock skills, but it will save/earn you a fair bit of money in the long run.

Trust me -- when I was new, I spent a lot of "worthless" Balthazar Faction unlocking a bunch of skills for my heroes. I look back on it with regret.

I've just finished the Nightfall campaign, and currently working on secondary quests and cartography. I'm fairly new to the game so my experience with hero builds is pretty much nonexistent (I use whatever I get when they join me, except for the monks for which I have more skills since I mostly play Mo as secondary and I got skills from quests). Besides one mission near the end of the campaign where you have to kill two villains (I'm not gonna spoil more) for which I had to pay for a run, all the other missions (including master's) I was able to do with my lame heroes. The only thing I could say is that I spent a nice chunk of money to put Survivor insignias on all their pieces of armor, plus Vitae, plus +30hp runes, and I have /bonus weapons which equipped at least some of them. And somehow I managed to do alone most of the campaign, so therefore you could probably do it too. I generally used 2 melee (Koss and Melonni), 2 healers (Dunkoro and Tahlkora) and 3 ranged depending where I was on the story (Margrid, Zhed, Jin, Morgahn, Olias). So either I got lucky, or the /bonus weapons and the HP runes and insignias helped, but I could get most of Nightfall done. Therefore, you will probably do too. Good luck.

Please note that the general Melee hero AI isn't very good. For example, warriors don't use their attack skills properly. My advice is, as soon as you can, get some mesmers/necros/ritus to rock your world.

It has already been said, but because it's important I'll repeat it. Make sure to rune and insignia up your heroes as well as yourself. Runes of Vigor are importnat (start out with minor ones on your casters, then work up to majors once your income flows in steadily. Don't bother with Superior Vigors on heroes unless you end up with just too much money and don't know what to do with it.)

Speaking of money, if you find it difficult to keep at the beginning the best advice I have for anyone in the game needing more money is to not bother with lockpicks. Some elite area chests are worth them, but even in endgame areas or even HM you won't get many good items; and the treasure hunter title has a ridiculously high max level.

I find that after a certain breaking point, you'll eventually have more green and perfect gold weapons than you'll know what to do with. These are great to use for your heroes.

You should also be told that you can use runes to learn any skills(of your primary or secondary profession) that are unlocked on your account.

This means that all the skills you unlock for your heros can be learned by you as well via tomes. Tomes drop in hard mode but can also be purchased from other players. There are regular Tomes and Elite Tomes.

Don't stop improving your heroes' builds, constantly tweak them and make them better. Also, you can do zaishen elite for 6k balthazar faction per day (a full run takes less than 20 mins and is really easy).

If you go melee team you probably want to have a paragon as one of your heroes.
I run a team of N/Rt, N/rt, N/Mo, Rt/, Me/Mo, Me/Rt, Mo/Me as my standard pve team.

As for weapons and runes and stuff, they are important but there's really no need to rush it, it isn't that huge, like builds are. Still you should aim to have the best equippment available within a couple of weeks for your team.

QFT.

Personally, I can't give much advice on hero teams. My current hero setup is based on Mercenaries and these Mercs are all from my actual characters (not PvP insta-mercs), so, no matter what character I'm playing, I have essentially the same team of all me.
It's definitely not the "best", but it works just fine for anything but a few high-end places like DoA, etc., where I will change things as needed.
So, my 8-mercenaries consist of:
BHA/volley Ranger (w/pet), Barrage/Splinter Ranger (w/pet), Panic Mesmer, MM necro, SoS Rit, Air Ele, HB Monk, and a spirit/prot Mo/Rt.
