You have to buy mercenary slots from the ingame store to be able to use em. If you have slots then your pve toons can get your pvp toon as a hero by talking to the mercenary registrar.

they work just like magnets.

but really once you buy the slots(1-7 of them) you can register a person in one of those slots for other characters on the account to use. the other characters then have to talk to one of the registrars and it will automatically give them to you

But if I Understand things right - The Merc has a seperate existance from the main character, no? So any Exp Merc-Pandora picks up does not apply to Pandora. Am I right about that? Mostly interested in if I map someplace with my primary and a Merc, does the Mercs doppleganger have to revist those area's themselves to open them up on her map.

I'll qualify for Mercs very soon, and I'm trying to figure If I will be able to switch between primary's (depending on mission) or if its best to just dedicate one Toon to the Merc Role.

Top tip for creating mercs.... PVP characters. You can delete the pvp char and the mercenary will remain.

when you register a character, the registered version that you can use as a hero is treated just like any other hero.
example. you make want another monk hero to use on your ranger. you register a monk character, log onto your ranger and talk to the registrar. once you do that, the monk "merc" or "hero" becomes available to use just like dunkoro , tahlkora and ogden would be.

the normal monk on the account still exists, but is completely different from the monk "merc" that you registered.

Also, the mercenary comes with standard maxed unruned armor for it's profession You will need to rune each mercenary on each char where you use it. It is the armor skin that your char was wearing when you registered it for mercenary, so you can even wear a costume while registering. I have my necro mercenary running around in wedding dress hehe.

Dont think merc as anything special, theyre just hero with the appearance of the character you created, be it pvp or pve. They will be available on all your characters except for that character itself. To use your example, say you created a merc from your character Pandora. Pandora merc can be use on all your characters except Pandora, she cannot use herself as a merc. And you get them right away so you can start in any campaign and have lvl20 heroes right away and never have to worry about using henchman.

if you can get to the merc rep you can get mercs (my low level elonian mules can have them!)....and you will need to get them a weapon too (the reason why my mules got them--2 more weapons slots to put my stash of weapons!!)

Thanks for the Tip:
I had a very specific reason for Adding these two, but I was thinking of Adding a Monk, basically a Hero Version of Aleisha; so PVPing my Hero Aleisha I think would work out well.

Has anyone tried this;
Would it be possible to create a Merc "Ara" using the PvP technique.
Delete the PvP Toon, Create a PvE toon with the same name, so you could explore a new place with that Charactor; while Your other Characters have the benifit of playing with the Character while your leveling the New Ara up? You see all my Characters are based on Characters in my own short fiction, so I know long term what I want this team to look like at the end of the day.

like i said before, merc heroes are completely separate from the normal character on the account. the merc hero will be level 20, and it doesn't grant any experience, title progression or anything of that nature to another character named that. the merc hero is just another hero at that point.

This should work, as anyway having deleted the pvp toon you can reuse the name. And honestly it was an idea I had myself, as I as well only like using my own chars as mercenaries but didn't try it in the end as I managed to get the lvl 5 ones to 20 as well in short time, but it really makes sense. If you make it exactly the same it will be identical to the pve one. And you can always replace it after, in case you want it with the armor the pve one has, when it reaches lvl 20.
I hope what I said makes sense!

Found a possible glitch today, if a small one. Even though my Rangers Mask is set to always hide when I finally leveled her up to 20 and went to the Registar she comes up with the mask on. The Merc is supposed to look exactly like the Charactor at the moment you make it; so ... thats wrong, and I really dont like the Highwayman look. If anyone knows a work around please let me know. I look so much better without, no? see Avatar.

BTW,
Just took my R/Elm for a test drive, at least for that adventure; the AI was right on .. I did micro the Lava Fonts a little (one of my favorite spells) but for the most part it was really really cool : ) Very happy with the operational side of the results. BB. OMG the Zombies are dropping Lupins.

Just take mask off when registering, she will still have a head piece armor when turn into a hero. So you could even be naked and still have AR once turned into a hero.

Absolutely cool that worked.

And I did not loose any of the Runes I had put on the Orignals armor when I recreated the Merc with the same name, in fact she was still on the other toons party list.
Very Cool, Thankyou very much. BB.

yeah, you wont lose any runes/insignia/weapons if the merc hero is created in the same slot regardless of name, if it's the same profession again. If it's different profession, you only lose profession specific runes/insignia, in other words Attribute Runes/insigina that are specific to that profession armor (for example - for paragon it would be Centurion's). Hope that make sense.
