Lightbulb Best way to aquire Globs of Ectoplasm?

So I first dabbled in the idea of getting Obsidian armor when I realized my tab-full of miniatures, including Asura and 2x destroyers, were worth some cash. I wound up trading all of my minis for enough globs of Ectoplasm to get a full set of obsidian armor for my Necro, having traded extra globs for Obsidian shards, and still had 52 globs left at the very end. I rerolled my old elementalist, and he's quickly become my main character. I really want to get him Obsidian armor, and even bought him a makeover credit to ensure whatever hairstyle I choose to keep won't clip the armor (that neckpiece clips just about every hairstyle except for 2 or 3 that I like).

So I thought there must be a way to farm things where I can buy the ecto (from other players in-game, esp since the prices are lower than I've ever noticed), or farm the ecto itself.

I have at least one of every profession, and have access to all areas of the game. I'm impatient when it comes to forming groups in town to do dungeon runs, vanquish runs, etc. I thought Vaettir farming with either my Elementalist or Assassin would be the way to go, but watching some videos I see that often you may get ONE good drop worth selling in a whole run. So I feel that may not be the most efficient way of farming anything.

So I am here to ask your input. I see many people in town with chaos gloves, obsidian armor, buying/selling things like money is no object. And they won't reveal their secrets. I searched and couldn't find anything useful or applicable to my request.

What would you suggest I do to aquire the remaining globs of ectoplasm I need for a full Obsidian set for my elementalist?

from my experience fow and uw sc are really hard to get into if you are new because there is so much elitism, but if you have the gear and the time to form groups willing to group with a noob, watch videos and in a week or two you should be good, but for a full run which usually takes about 30 mins sometimes up to 50, you get maybe a net value of 7 ectos. max? unless you get really good drops from the chest. As it is the birthday event still I am currently raptor farming, you can learn to do it and get all the shit for it in like 2 hours and it is so fast and easy, and if you sell the golds you make a net value of about an ecto a run, and a run is about 1 minute. so that seems like the better choice. also farming War in kryta isnt bad if you are good at it, I personally never farm the oppressor weapons but they are good money, DoA is easy once you have high lightbringer rank and you make money fairly quickly so if you like that it is great money. and finally if you havent done winds of change Hm that has some awesome rewards, you can trade ur gems for ectos or sell them and buy ectos. but these are the best things I can think of. hope this helps, I am in a very similar situation trying to get my first set of chaos gloves

Edit: also many Uwsc pug groups fail, and if i wasnt clear sell gold unidentified and keep the ones with popular mods, you can usually check mods by equiping them and doing some quick testing its not that hard, and sell the popular mods some are worth up to 5k spend some time in spamadan and learn prices so you dont screw yourself over merching something rare.

Farm zkeys for JQ or FA. Use UW farming builds found at gwpvx. Farm vaettir with A/Me. Powertrade, fowsc, doasc, gw:beyond content for profitable rewards, or simply 7H in high end areas. If you can't bear wasting time to do any of this, you should probably worry less about getting obby on your ele and more on why you're playing gw in the first place.

Do NOT suggest/talk about/consider buying ectos or gold online. It WILL get you banned and it's honestly not worth it.

You should also look into our farming forum.

Yeah whatever you do, DO NOT buy in game anything with real world cash. You will get suspended and/or banned. I say this because people that are impatient are the ones most likely to go this route. There are no real easy/quick way to make lots of anything if you are not willing to put the effort into it. If it were easy everyone would have a ton of ectos and such.

As far as making money? Power trading is an option but you have to be patient, know what things are worth and be ready to pounce on any good deals (and you can find them). Not for everyone sinceit involves haggling and sometimes ripping people off (not a fan of it).

Farming events (this past 2 weeks is a perfect example) is another good way to accumulate things that you can sell after the event for healthy profits. In fact this past 2 weeks 7th year event imo has been dropping A LOT more stuff than compared to other events in the past.

Also make sure you do the daily Zaishen and WIK Wanted stuff to accumulate Z coins and medals of honor. Silver coins go for 1.8k each, gold coins for 2 ecto each. Medals you can exchange for oppressor items which right now sell for 12-15e each easily.

??? Go to the Jade Quarry and play.
??? Use the Balthazar and Imperial faction points for Zaishen Keys.
??? Go to Temple of Balthazar and sell the keys for no less then 5.5K each.
??? Go to Kamadan and buy ectos for 6.7k each or 7k each.

Or join a fissure of woe speedclear guild. You will have no problem getting in there I guess since it is not very hard to play some roles. If you like PvP this is probably the easiest way to get zkeys and therefor ectos.

Well, i am in similar situation and i have 8 obsidian sets now... most of them (or at least 4) were earned by doing lots of zaishen quests, especially the easy ones... then i traded my gold coins for ectos (maybe selling silver coins is more profitable, but tbh i didnt care too much about that). I also got 15+ tormented weapons, a panda rangerpet, lots of heavy equipmentpacks and probably more this way.

Again: just focus on the zaishen quests that are enjoyable for you (short, easy and/or good rewards, etc) and try to do them with all your chars.

For example: today zaishen mission is Unwaken waters... do that with your 10 chars in HM and you end up with 3 gold coins (thats an easy 6 ectos), 10k money and 25,000 kurzick and luxon factions

This works for me (although nowadays it may takes some time before you find a buyer, but you will always find one).

You can buy them from rare material traders.

Those guys seriously never run out of the stuff.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Gladiator Motoko: really? Your suggestion doesn't add to the discussion. I will edit the post and have it closed. It seems the general concensus is to look into those daily quests. Not so much of a grind, and not so time consuming. As for Relyk: I have limited time to play Guild Wars. I was wondering on efficient ways, not so much fast. Also I wasn't trying just to get the armor to get the armor. I like how it looks. I play casually, and shy away from anything that I can't do casually (Deep, Urgoz for example). I like being able to sit down, play for 30-90 minutes, walk away, come back another day. Make sense? Again, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll get to work.

It sufficiently answers the thread topic.

You should be appreciative and not so greedy :S

You can do both The Deep and Urgzo Warren casual too, if you have a relaxed team with you (guild?)... but for that you may need to full 90 minutes.

Farm the repeatable quest Rise.

You get it by doing the War in Kryta extra content. You get 1k and 5 War Supplies. It only takes 6-7 minutes to complete, and doing it 50 times gets you 250 War Supplies, which is 10 Medals, which is an Oppressor Weapon.

So in 5 hours you get:

50k
62,500 Vanguard rep
Whatever you can get from the loot you obtain
And an Oppressor Weapon, which you can sell for a little bit over 100k.

I had 10k. I did Rise in order to max my Vanguard rank. It's been maybe 4 or 5 days. I would now have well over 400k if I did not want some Ancient Armor for my Ranger.
