Ah, L7 was about perfect - and 12 is fine for where you are. You'll notice that the henchmen are level 8 - that's always a good pointer.

I just popped into Borliss Pass on the off chance, but there was no W/R there ^_^

OH - one more thing: You did notice that the party size increased to 6 when you hit Yak's Bend, right?

Cowardly enemies like that are annoying OP. Mostly because in the middle of a fight you can't flag heroes/henchies in time (at least I never can) to not follow them into another squad of enemies. Just keep focusing on the healer/monks if it happens. I used to keep attacking the closest enemy to me when I first started not realising that the monk enemies were healing them while I did

SUCCESS!!

This morning after about an hour of different startagies i cleared the borlis pass! Not only this ive cut a massive arc across the rolling ascalon foothills and ive arrived at Katya gates not before picking up a couple of extra henchmen at beacons peak i know have six LOL. How big CAN the party get? Ive set myself the next goal of pushing on to lions arch and then ill go back through the previous areas and mop up additional unfinished side quests.

Its Official....GW has become my life .... and im not even sorry!

Cheers to all those who helped and advised Im sure there will be more noob questions for you to remedy

Make sure you take the correct exit out of Beacon's Perch - if you die in under 10 seconds it was the wrong one

The maximum party size is eight, with just a couple of special places where it's 12.

yeah i took the way out that i came in and headed towards griffons something. and ahh right thats cool. Do the henchies ever change cos atm ive got chance to have a brawler, a necromancer, a healer, a figher, a mage, an archer and enchanter but someone said its possible to have to healers etc. Does the range of henchies to choose from vary according to how far you've progressed?

Cheers

Yes, there are other henchmen available as you progress (When Lina becomes an option, take her! Alesia is much better when she's in the party too.) Just keep an eye on who is available in each town you come across and try different ones that you encounter. Also later on, you're party size will reach the maximum of 8.

Hey there and welcome.

I am not much far ahead of you, started a month or two ago and only finished the Prophecy campaign today (bit of self congrats on the way)

Yes as you progress you will get more choice of henchmen, and up to 8 with you in a group.

Like others suggested, I found it helpfull to go to Nightfall as soon as possible to start collecting heroes. One nice thing you get with heroes, is not only customising their skill bar but also the first 3 heroes in your group have their own flag, so you can place them individually. this can come in really handy.

you may find some good info on the replies to my original post ("starting GW now?"), when I was desperate for info. Also got some good help back then.

(In fact, it's not worthwhile upgrading armor until you hit Ventari's Refuge - possibly even holding on until the desert if you're lacking in funds.)
Yes the guy in Yak's Bend has the same AL armor as Corwen - but only if you got the more expensive armor from him and not the cheaper stuff from him or the other guy.
I would in general disagree with the idea that it's not worthwhile to upgrade your armor. In fact, I would say exactly the opposite - upgrade your armor AL whenever possible. For new players, it helps to make everything a little easier. And, given how the gold rewards scale up as you go along, there's no great benefit to saving that early gold either.
But, to each their own - whatever yanks your chain - etc.

Dont forget to use your hero flag. This also works for henchmen, but then only the 1st button... it prevents that your henchmen move too much away from their spot.

Downside of this button CAN be that your henchmen are clusterd (close to achother). An enemy with AOE (arial of effect) damage, like an elementalist, can cause a lot of damage to them that way... but if that happens you always can move that flag again to a safer spot.

Heroes are like henchmen, but you can customize them (add runes and insignia's to their armor, give them better weapons, make their skillbuild). If done correctly they work a lot better than henchmen, but making them perfect is often not cheap... for new (and usually poor) players it can be better to keep playing with henchmen for awhile.

To answer the questions most heroes you will get as part of your primary quest (meaning you wont be able to not get them as long as you complete the quests they are involved in) other heroes are optional and you will need to take sidequests to get them. For detailed instructions... -> http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hero

Edit

Forgot about M.O.X! once you are out of the main "port cities" (Lion's Arch, Kamadan or Kaineng City) you will see a GOLEM (looks like a robot) called M.O.X. it will join you only, if you are level 20, simply by talking to it.

My first few characters through Prophecies did exactly that - and struggled for money all the way! It's hard to imagine struggling to find the money for a 75g/piece armor set, but I think we've all been there!

Can't be bothered to search the wiki again, but I'm almost certain that the armor available in LA is still the same rating as the expensive Ascalon set and the Yak's stuff. In retrospect, maybe they could have made each "waypoint" armor better by 5-10 AR than that available at previous stages - but they didn't. It's irrelevant to old hands like us because we tend to do crazy stuff like finishing the game in starter armor, but what the hey

Once you reach the major port cities in each campaign (Lions Arch for Prophecies, Kaineng Center for Factions, Kamadan for Nightfall) there is an option to travel to the other campaigns/continents -- cross-campaign travel article on wiki is here.

As your warrior is a native Prophecies character, speaking to Lionguard Figo in Lion's Arch will give you a quest that takes you to Kamadan to pick up some initial NF heroes. The link from Cancer777 has a chart halfway down the wiki page that tells you what heroes to pick up from where. The first "set" you'll pick up in NF will be Koss, Melonni, Tahlkora, Dunkoro and, a bit farther up the path from the others, either Sousuke or Jin. There is also an option to pick up a necromancer hero if you can find someone in Kamadan who can "ferry" you to the mission outpost next door called Consulate Docks. You don't have to do any missions in that outpost but Dinja in CD has a quest to let you pick up Olias. All these heroes (except Sousuke/Jin) will be level 15 when you get them.

As noted by others, heroes can be a great help, but usually only when they are properly skilled, runed and armed with weapons. Since they are customizable, that is your "job". For skills at least, it's usually recommended that (if you haven't spent real world money in the in-game store on skill unlock packs) you temporarily roll toons of other professions and play them for a bit. This will unlock some additional basic skills that you might be able to use to flesh out your hero skill bars. Later, once you get about 3/4 of the way into Prophecies, you'll have the option to change your warrior's secondary profession. This is handy because there are skill quests that also reward additional skills for that secondary, which if you can't use your heroes will. At that point you can try out all the other professions as secondaries (500g per change) and unlock more basic skills.

MOX is actually obtainable outside these cities by any toon that is level 10 or higher (not just level 20 toons). Though except for Kamadan, by the time you get to the other cities you're usually well past level 10 . MOX has the advantage of being already level 20 from the get-go....though like all heroes he'll have an incomplete skillbar.

You're not wrong; the LA armorer has weak gear.

(You'll see a dialog box when you enter LA telling you who to talk to to travel to the other chapters)

Do not do it this way. The quest that takes you to Kamadan is pretty tough, especially with a 6-person party with level 10 henchies. Take the quest that sends you to Cantha instead, which is you can do alone and naked. In Kaineng Center, you can get that quest to Kamadan (Nightfall) and do it with a party filled out with 7 level 20 henchies. And, if you've got the gold and mats, you can get max armor there too.

Ok cool beans, yeah ive managed to grab MOX he was waiting for me just before i went into lions arch for the first time and, this is sad, i remember seeing him on some pamphlet i got inside my game case and decided to go see if he was anything and important and BOOM this noob got himself a robo-hero LOL all fun and games. Also...and this is just a side question but does the availability of money dropped by mobs or stuff to sell to gain more wonga progress as with area and level etc ive notice a slight increase as ive moved through different areas but i was just wondering how high the grade goes. Im sure theres a wiki thingy out there but im still struggling with navigating that mess of information LOL.

Yes the rewards do get better, the only advantage of Cantha is max armor right away.

The best thing to do right now is:

1. Go to Lions Arch
2. Go to Cantha or Eye of the North or wait untill you hit the Consulate Docks (imo Sunspear is the best looking warrior armor in the game) and get max armor, this will save you a lot of money
3. Go to EotN and the hall of monuments and get the 3 easy heroes
4. Use the heroes to go to Night Fall and get the 4 heroes
5. Keep playing NF until you get the option for a ranger or an ele, get the ranger
6. Make the ranger a rit and buy some spirits skill from the sunspear trainer, even if you can't get a lot of spirits and elites, spirits help and with max expertise the rit skills cost nothing
6. Keep playing until you get to the Consulate Docks (you can get max armor here if you haven't found one you like yet), talk to Dinja to get the Olias quest, but DO NOT take the mission here, you will lose Koss.
7. You can take the Zenmi quest, assassin heroes aren't that useful but you can get her for completion sake plus there is a decent critical agility/barrage build that causes a fair amount interruptions.

Now you are ready to beat the rest of the game.

If you can't get the max armor, the cities of Bettletun and Bergen Hot Springs have the next level of armor.

Glad you have joined GW's in full addictional detail , party size for most parts is 8, I'm sure some endgame or is it pvp that have 12? You seem to like the game, if you buy some expansions etc. you can play these areas with heroes who you can equip with weapons of your choice and have full control over their skillbars.

You in a Guild yet? Always good to be in a decent one. It negates the 'Game is Dead' theory, I always have an active Guild/Alliance chat so even when I end up in low player outposts I never feel like I'm there alone

Ps. Plus it's game advice on tap.

@ Kook~NBK~....doh, you're right. I've forgotten what a nightmare that particular "getting to NF" quest is for a low-level or newish player... >.<

Er....I'm not an expert on this and the OP didn't mention if he has rolled a rit character to do so...but will there be any additional rit skills available from the SS Skill Trainer if he hasn't unlocked any on his account? Also....rangers have a low energy pool. Even with Expertise maxed those rit skills WILL still cost some energy. Specifically (tho I could be wrong)...any of the weapon or item spells since Expertise only affects binding rituals.

The point is that Ranger spirit spammers don't use weapon/item spells, just spirits. The skill availability is a different matter - it will suck.

The most important skill - SoS - isn't available until halfway through Factions, so all in all a spirit-spamming ranger hero is pretty much no-go for a beginner.

I hesitate to bring up the subject of skill unlock packs, but man does that simplify GW
