Default So if I understander correctly, ArenaNet only wants a limited number of 50/50 HoMs?

Unless I misunderstood, the requirement of 50 miniatures to achieve 50/50--so many of them limited to birthday presents--means that there's only a limited supply of miniatures that can be dedicated in the entire game, and therefore there can only be so many 50/50 HoM monuments in existence.

It seems strange to me because all the other monuments can be attained without that sort of limitation due to item generation from drops. Those monuments are sinks, but they're sinks with unlimited supplies behind them.
Devotion though is a sink with limited resources.

there are minis that you can get from other places besides birthday gifts.
There are TONS of birthday minis out there as well (LOTS of people have multiple characters ---and have had them for many years).

If you are talking about the very uber rare minis like panda, island guardian, etc...yes there are only a few around still--and even fewer undedicated.

But there are tons of characters, I have 15 having birthdays this month alone! PLENTY of minis out there for dedicating, and more characters having birthdays--every day!

so yeah, they are limited, but not even close to keeping people from 50/50.

Oh it's not impossible, my point is simply that only so many people can achieve 50/50 due to this.
It strikes me as unusual within the Hall and within the greater scope of the game to deliberately limit how many people can attain GWaMM, because it denies effort. Someone could be willing and able to put in the effort for 50/50, but still be unable to achieve it due to this sort of limitation.

I still dont think you understand... I have 4 accounts ALL of them have all the minipets, I did buy a few of the green ones (to complete the set), but had plenty to get all of them to 50 minis--you can get minis from other places: nic has 3, wik has 6, woc has 2?, canthan new year has a new one each year, etc....and there were promotions like the ceratdon and asura as well as the varesh and kuunie from the ce editions, you can also make your own moa chick---PLENTY of minis, you only need 50 and there are 70 from birthday gifts, and another 30+ from other sources---not at all hard to get 50 minis to dedicate.

The HoM was designed as a reward system for veteran players of GW1. Players who purchased all the campaigns and the expansion have 8 or 9 character slots. Multiply this figure by 6. New players will have longer to wait, or they can buy from the massive number of characters with duplicate minis. 50/50 is an optional reward that awards you with a line of text in GW2.

^^ this, and indeed, a lot of players have multiple accounts for storage. My second account doesn't have EotN so whenever I'm done with my main HoM the rest goes to other players. And I'm not the only one. So there is a lot of new miniatures added for people that already have 50/50.

This. I can't imagine not being able to achieve 50/50 HoM would be a deal-breaker for many players. It's not that overbearingly important.

Let me break this down to you in a basic way. You misunderstand that. 50/50 is attainable for anyone willing to get it. Minipets are not a limiting factor as there are far more of them than is required. If they wanted to limit it then they would have kept HoM's character based instead of account based, and they would have made it so that the more 50/50's you got on your account the more rewards you got.

Minipets are not a factor with regards to HoM completion. There are more of them then necessary.

I just started getting my 4th year presents a couple months ago (late starter) and i think ive been at 50/50 for almost a year. And i didnt really even spend much to buy the additional minis i needed to max out. I dedicated a kuunavang only because i had an extra one but could have easily purchased a cheaper green. So no absolutely not as far as minis being a limiting factor to 50/50.

I guess in theory it is possible that the number of people wanting to get 50/50may eventually outnumber the available pets but I doubt it will happen anytime soon

Like the rest of the posters I have quite a few Alts with a lot of slots .

I have given many away to guildies and friends and to get to 50/50 also as said its just a title after 30 points .

I bet you a dollar you wont see too many displaying such as most guys just did it because they have had more time than yourself to get there.

Anet considers 30 attainable and thats why there are no other items available after that to take accross to GW2..bar a title

No, because 10 years from now people will still be getting birthday presents. While the supply is limited, it will always be growing to the point where it outpaces demand.

I'm new to GW. I started end of feb/start of march. As a result, I personally haven't ever gotten a Present. That said, I already have the green and gold mini's and I'm at 20 or so total, and I'm not even in a guild or anything, nor did I start with any help from anyone else.

People are constantly selling mini's. If you were to pay a premium, here's how it would go.

There's 4 years of white minis. The top/common price for them is roughly 5k*year. So, 40k for y1, 80k for y2, 120k for y3, and 160k for y4 = 400k (40p) for 32 minis. Assuming you grab a black moa chick (which will be 5-10p for materials), there's your green, and you're at 33.

I think actually Now is harder than it probably will be in the future. Everyone is cramming to get this done by august. as time goes on, there's more and more accounts generating more and more presents. Since 7th year introduced more rares than there were, I imagine 8th year is going to be the same. It should actually drive the prices down.

edit: Were I to imagine things that might be difficult down the road, getting all the titles with nobody around to group with (for the elite areas) or for gathering resources (like party/etc points), or for acruing resources needed for armor; is going to make it a lot harder.

Minis is probably the least problematic, behind Fellowship, which is a slam dunk.

Not to mention, the ones that have completed their Mini collection are now selling or give to friends their minis they get from bdays and such.

When I originally saw the minipet requirement for 50/50 my response was not so different from that of the OP. However, I though about my particular situation: 19 character slots across 2 account. That's 19 mini from birthday presents per year. There's also a celestial mini every year (for the last 5 years anyway), the moa chick mini, the two mini Kuunivangs I got from collector's editions, the 2 mini Varesh I got from collector's edition. All in all I was able to easily get all the minis I needed without buying any (though I did occasionally trade some duplicates) and now have dozens extra that (after giving plenty away to guildies/alliance members, etc.) For a NEW player, getting 50 minis is hard, but 50/50 in the HoM was not intended to go to NEW players or those who played for only a short time. I see no reason why any player wouldn't be able to get 50/50 provided they put in the time and effort it takes to achieve it.

Technically speaking, even the supply of crafting materials required for some weapons and all armor sets is limited. So is the supply of some collectibles, unless new characters are created.

Miniatures can come from multiple sources, and most of those are renewable. So, it's really a non-existent problem, since it's highly unlikely that this admitedly present but actually irrelevant limitation to supply are ever going to stop anyone from completing his/her HoM

Average player will have 8 characters. That means 8 minis each year. 7 years of GW. 7x8=56
That's 6 more minis than needed for HoM.
Meaning the number of minis will keep rising and they will never run out of supply (at least not 50 simple ones needed for HoM, you don't need panda and all that).

Yeah pretty much. I've been basically selling them (my 4th year minis and even still some 3rd year ones) at bargain prices (50% of what they usually go for) just so I don't have to stand around Kamadan all day trying to get someone to buy it at full price.
