Default Post level 20 experience

So why do you continue to get experience after level 20? I mean it really makes no sense? Unless I am completely stupid and missing a fact .

Everytime your experiencebar fills you get an extra skillpoint. Skillpoints ,can be used for buying skills or for getting certain consumables wich are used for end game stuff to make things go faster. See also http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Skill_point

The fact that you still gain XP is what allowed them to change the Survivor title so that you don't have to start a new character, so that's a secondary reason.
